This new breed of SUV improved safety and refinement, in a curvaceous package, underpinned by SuperSelect 4WD.

Exterior Overview

Ready for the new millennium and its third iteration, this 1999 Pajero was the latest and greatest when it debuted. This new breed of SUV improved safety and refinement, in a curvaceous package, underpinned by class-leading SuperSelect 4WD. Finished in a classic Satellite Silver (A69) two-tone, this three-row truck is set off by refinished 16″ OEM wheels, factory side steps, OEM rainguards, subtle privacy tint, and chrome door handles, mirrors, and tail light garnishes. Aside from a few light dings, chips, and scuffs the paint is in good shape, and this Exceed model is fresh off a recent service. Boasting a mere 65k verified and documented miles on this clock, this gasoline Mitsubishi is barely broken in. Ideal and all-weather year-round daily driver, rugged rock crawler, or cool Cars & Coffee cruiser, this V6 model is up to the task. Reliable, practical, easy to service, and affordable to purchase, this Japanese Classic 4×4 is a vehicle for the JDM virtuoso!

Interior Overview

The cabin redesign was a massive improvement over the second-gen truck. The cockpit feels much larger and the ergonomics were improved greatly. Additional storage was added with dual gloveboxes and an extra deep center console with built-in 12v changing, The driver benefits from a tilt-adjustable steering column to find the ideal driving position. To make daily use more enjoyable, power-folding mirrors, electric locks, power windows, and cruise control all work as advertised. Both front occupants can rest assured knowing dual SRS airbags are standard and the dashboard lacks any cracking or fading. A newer Panasonic touchscreen head unit modernizes the cabin, and pumps out tunes to supplement your drive. Even better, Bluetooth hands-free tech and a backup camera are integrated into the system. The dual-zone automatic climate control is adjacent and can pump in tons of heat for this winter. It is primed to deliver A/C into the summer months, as well. The upholstery is in above average shape and lacks any major rips, stains, or tears. The gray cloth is soft to the touch, too. Spec’d with the optional space-saving third row, which conveniently folds flat into the floor, this Pajero can transport two additional folks in a pinch. The rear cargo door is side-hinged and can open wide to swallow your stowables. The carpets, door cards, and headliner are in good shape and even the owner’s manuals and maintenance booklets are included with the purchase of this Mistu. Aside from a relocated horn button, there is little to complain about within the cockpit, and the condition is amongst the nicest interiors we have seen all year!

Mechanical Overview

These powertrains are every bit as reliable as Toyota but get little fanfare. It’s a shame because Mitsubishi gasoline engines, such as this directed injected 6G74, are more responsive and powerful than Toyota’s mills. Fresh off an oil and filter service, the V6 chugs to life care of a new 12v battery. A new intake air filter allows the 3.5L to breathe freely and the V6 pulls hard to redline. Torque is fed through a stout automatic gearbox that feels fresh as a daisy. Shifts are reassured and power is fed through a SuperSelect 4 4WD system. This new transfercase design is more intuitive to operate than the prior iteration and includes settings for 4WD high and low and gives the driver the ability to lock the center differential, too. It gets up to highway speeds without breaking a sweat and it slows down confidently with ABS brakes. The suspension is soft and offers loads of ground clearance. It handles large and small potholes with confidence and can withstand the rigors of daily use and abuse. The refinished 16″ alloys are all wrapped in new all-terrain 32″ Falken tires. Freshly mounted and balanced, they reduce road noise and will last for tens of thousands of miles to come.
