Exterior Overview
The Avenir GT4-Z is a highly underrated chassis, and in our opinion it offers loads more than the sport hatchbacks offered to our domestic market in the early 2000’s. This Nissan offers up handsome styling, all wheel drive, and a hotshot SR20DET under the hood. This 1999 may not get the press that some other chassis receive, but boy is this a special platform. Finished in a classic Sonic Silver (KR4) this estate is set off by 19″ aftermarket WREST wheels, OEM rainguards, Optional Xenon headlamps, and OEM optional rear valance, side skirts and front lip. Aside from a few light scuffs, chips and scratches, the paint is in good shape and this five seater is fresh off a recent service. Offered with only 103k verified and documented miles on the clock, this practical, punchy and reliable Japanese Classic should be at the top of the list. Ideal as a year round daily driver, cool kid hauler, or wonderful weekend cruiser, this neat Nissan should fit the bill!
Interior Overview
It’s obvious that wagons are highly practical and the Avenir boasts lots of passenger and cargo space. There are also a healthy amount of safety features such as dual front SRS airbags and OEM power adjustable xenon headlamps for improved visibility at night. The driver benefits from a tilt adjustable steering column and keyless entry to access the driver seat. The dashboard lacks any cracking or fading and the center stack includes a Pioneer radio update that sounds decent and includes USB MP3 integration. Above, a digital climate control system pumps in ice cold air conditioning and scorching heat. A backup camera was installed in Japan and displays clearly through a trick upgraded rearview mirror. Power folding mirrors, electric locks, and power windows all work in typical Nissan fashion and improve the daily driving experience. The seats steal the show with a blue and gray flannel pattern. The upholstery lacks any major rips, stains, or tears and is mirrored in the door cards. The rear bench can recline and also fold flat into the floor for additional storage space. The headliner is in good shape as are the carpets, and we’ve retained the factory carpet mats to keep your upholstery tidy underneath. As a whole it’s really hard to nitpick the cabin, but if we had to scrutinize anything the struts for the rear hatch glass no longer support weight. Other than that, this is a turn-key cabin sure to keep both drivers and passengers satisfied!
Mechanical Overview
Under the skin, this all wheel drive monster is powered by the legendary SR20DET engine. This hotshot four banger is fresh off an oil and filter service, and churns to life promptly care of a new 12v battery. A new fuel filter works to keep unwanted contaminants out of the 2.0L and we also resealed the transmission pan to shore up the driveline. The automatic shifts properly and the Avenir pulls hard to redline. Power is sent to both axles, and this wagon gets down and boogies when you mash the gas, singing a symphony through an Apex’i megaphone exhaust. The suspension is responsive and compliant, and the power steering is direct and provides decent feedback. ABS brakes clamp down hard to reel this GT4 in from higher speeds, and we wrapped the 19’s in fresh rubber all the way around. It’s worth noting one of the wheels has a slight bend that is noticeable under hard braking, but otherwise this sleek sportwagon is a perfect driver, and ready to tackle tens of thousands of miles after a fresh alignment here at the shop!
