Exterior Overview
The J90 Series Land Cruiser is a sweet deal. It offers a cushioned ride, tons of space, lots of safety features and unmatched reliability. It’s also highly capable, with its Full-Time 4WD and a punchy V6 engine that saw use here in the states. This 1999 is all business, and features an aggressive exterior aesthetic. Set off by chrome mirror caps and door handles, a blacked out grille and OEM rainguards, the aesthetic is all business and rounded off by a set of refinished Toyota alloys. The one-off Boulder Black the paint is in fine shape too, aside from some light paint defects and the occasional ding. Offered with only 108k verified and documented miles on the clock, this TX model is barely broken in. Trusty as a year round daily driver, this rig can haul the family to the campsite and pound the pavement with the best of them. Inexpensive to operate and own, and a joy to drive, this spacious and smooth Japanese Classic is one for the ages!
Interior Overview
The cabin is a high point of this model and this one was clearly cared for in Japan. The dashboard lacks any cracking or fading and an attractive off road field monitor sits atop it. Dual front SRS airbags are standard for those who value safety, as are ABS brakes. The driver benefits from a tilt adjustable steering column to find the ideal driving position. When behind the wheel, all the controls are close by and at hand. An upgraded Kenwood head unit belts out the tunes to supplement your daily commute. Bluetooth hands-free tech is included too, keeping your hands on the wheel and your eyes on the road. Below, a simple to use digital automatic climate control system can be utilized to control cabin temperature. The heat is blazing hot and the A/C is primed, and ready to be unleashed this upcoming summer. If you prefer more natural ventilation, a large glass sunroof can power back and tilt, the electric side windows can be rolled down, and the rear quarter glass can pop outward for increased airflow. Other electric amenities include power folding side mirrors and power locks, which all work in typical Toyota fashion. The cloth upholstery features a period correct pattern and has resisted excess wear and tear over the years, the fabric is mirrored in the door cards and overall it’s above average in condition. Optioned with the desirable third row, this SUV seats eight in comfort, and the seats stow off to the side if you prioritize additional cargo space. The door cards are in good shape, as are the carpets and headliner, and aside from some steering wheel wear under the cover, it’s hard to nitpick the cabin. Even the OEM owners manuals are still on hand, included with the purchase of this vehicle.
Mechanical Overview
These determined and tough trucks are underpinned by a body-on-frame platform. The engine is also durable, having tons of examples log a half million miles stateside. The 5VZ-FE under the hood whirrs to life quickly with the twist of the key care of a new 12v battery. It runs quietly thanks to new accessory belts that we installed while it was on the lift. To keep power and fuel economy top tier, we replaced the fuel filter and engine air filter, then chucked in six new spark plugs. The 3.4L was refreshed with a set of new cam plugs and valve cover gaskets to keep the oil level topped up, and the quad cam engine pulls hard to redline and is linked to a stout automatic gearbox. The Full-Time 4WD system has a low range and also a center locker in case some off-roading is in order. It gets up to highway speeds with confidence and the long wheelbase distributes road imperfections well. The Prado gobbles up potholes without breaking a sweat and the steering is light and power assisted. New steering rack bushings were installed prior to state inspection and the front brake pads and rotors were changed out to keep stopping distances tight and tidy. We wrapped the OEM alloys in brand new Falken rubber. Freshly aligned, the new tires will last for tens of thousands of miles to come and deliver all the year round grip you’ll ever need. They also reduce road noise, too. Turn key and ready to roll, this pretty Prado can be yours today!
