Built to go anywhere, these reliable and easy to service rigs seem to fly off our shelves, and this 1999 is powered by the same bulletproof gasoline 2.7L engine that was here in the good old US of A.

Exterior Overview

The Land Cruiser nameplate is a legendary one. Built to go anywhere, these reliable and easy to service rigs seem to fly off our shelves. This 1999 J95 is one sweet truck, and is powered by the same bulletproof gasoline 2.7L engine that was here in the good old US of A. Fresh off a recent service, this 4×4 is offered with a scant 88k verified and documented miles on the clock. Aside from a few light chips, scrapes, and scuffs the fresh Desert Khaki (86Q) paintwork is in good shape and this TX is adorned by refinished factory alloys and a stylish rear lollipop mirror. Safe, spacious, and unique, this terrific Toyota leaves little to be desired. Ideal as a year round daily driver, cool campsite companion, or practical weekend road tripper, this is a certified Japanese Classic.

Interior Overview

The cabin boasts tons of headroom, legroom, and cargo space. Equipped with a desirable third row, it can seat up to eight passengers comfortably. The dashboard lacks any cracking or fading and dual SRS airbags are standard for those riding up front. An OEM optional audio system can be accessed to dial in some tunes and the automatic climate system below works like a charm and is intuitive to operate. Besides the standard A/C, the J95 also includes optional rear heat to keep the cold away on those brisk mornings. If you prefer more natural ventilation, the rear quarter glass butterflies outward and the standard power windows unfurl with the press of a button. Functional power locks and power folding side mirrors make daily use even more enjoyable. This eight seater was spec’d with an optional third row. The seats fold away against the d-pillars and the middle row can slide forward creating a massive cargo hold. The seating material is in fine shape and lacks any major rips, stains or tears. The gray and blue cloth is also soft to the touch and remarkably durable. The same material can be found in the door cards, which are in equally good nick. The headliner is clean and it is held tightly to the roof and the carpets have escaped the past 25 years without sustaining major abuse. Even the owners manuals are included and as a whole, this is one of the nicest cabins we have seen in recent memory. Save for a dim audio screen, we think the next owner will find little to complain about!

Mechanical Overview

The Prado is a tough body on frame beast but rides like a dream. Power comes from the chain-driven 3RZ-FE. Fresh off an oil and filter service, the 2.7L churns to life care of a new 12v battery. A proper tune up was in order, and so one of our trained techs replaced the fuel filter, engine air filter, and chucked in four new spark plugs. We improved the acoustics a touch by adding a new exhaust too. We rehabbed the 3RZ with a new valve cover gasket and replaced the old PCV valve which has developed a small leak. The four banger feels healthy and pulls strong throughout the powerband. Torque is fed through a stout automatic gearbox and sent through a selective transfercase. We replaced the front right CV axle and axle seal to assist the drivetrain, and the FullTime 4WD system feels surefooted. A low range and center locker can be deployed during beach trips and off road escapades. It gets up to highway speeds with ease and is a comfortable cruiser if you are keeping it exclusively on the tarmac. It slows down impressively well, thanks to standard ABS, and new front brake pads which were installed while it was on the lift. New rear lower control arms were installed before we aligned the chassis and grip comes from four new Falken tires mounted and balanced at each corner. The new rubber quells road noises, looks mean, and most importantly, it will last for tens for thousands of miles to come!
