Exterior Overview
The modern-day crossover is an unkillable vehicle segment, and many models can trace their roots to the humble RD1 CRV. Honda was truly ahead of the curve, as models like this 1999 are still highly favored due to their abundant interior space, compact dimensions, tight turning radius and surefooted AWD. Finished in Taffeta White (NH-578), the cosmetics are in good shape and this CR-V “Smart Scape” is set off by a paint matched front bumper, chrome fog light covers, a chrome tailgate garnish and OEM rainguards. Typical of most 25 year old vehicles, a few paint chips and dings are to note but the condition far surpasses your typical USDM example, which frequently fall victim to clearcoat fade, corrosion, and other structural woes. The 120k miles on the clock are verified and documented, and do a lot to back up the condition of the vehicle. That’s also barely broken in for the 2.0 four banger under the hood. Ideal for daily driving, weekend camping excursions, or taking a fuel-sipping highway roadtrip, this is the Japanese Classic for the job!

Mechanical Overview
The CRV is a great platform, but the B20B under the hood is truly special for its seamless servicing experience. They’re easy to turn a wrench on, frugal on fuel, and our trained technicians have given this one a comprehensive recent service to shore it up for the road ahead. We started with a standard oil and filter service, replacing the engine air filter too for good measure. We also sealed up some pesky leaks with a new oil pan gasket, and we took care of a leaking distributor o-ring. A new 12v battery helps this CRV crank over with haste each time, and the four banger has more than enough get up and go to putt around town or cruise at highway speeds. It’s linked to a smooth automatic gearbox that sends power to a stout full time 4WD system. Some necessary drivetrain rehab was performed too. We installed a new wheel bearing at the right front, and bolstered the suspension with new rear trailing arm bushings and front swaybar bushings. The factory struts ride nicely and do a swell job at soaking up larger road imperfections. Both inner and outer tie rods were replaced up front, benefitting the power steering, and a fresh four wheel alignment was performed afterwards to get this RD1 tracking dead straight. The brakes bite with force, and we wrapped the factory alloys in fresh rubber to keep road noise to a minimum and traction to a maximum. This cool crossover is a hot model that won’t last long.
