A well kept MR2 is already a valuable find in today's market, but this SW20 Spider is really remarkable! With fewer than 90 production models leaving Toyota's Technocraft factory, our 1998 is one of reportedly 8 with a high revving BEAMS powerplant. With only 95k verified and documented miles on the clock make this one a true needle-in-a-haystack find compared to other used MR2 offerings. Finished in Lucerne Silver (199) and set off by grey accent striping, a redesigned engine lid, and an OEM soft-top, this slick roadster holds its own as a formidable weekend cruiser or resident garage queen. Showing only a few miniscule imperfections from its 25 year stint in Japan, this Spyder is a special unit and is sure to be the talk of your local Toyota meetup. Limited, stylish, and still unapologetically exhilarating to drive, this collectible mid-engine masterpiece is a once in a lifetime Japanese Classic find!

Following suit with the exterior, the interior received special touches too, and the two tone blue/black cloth upholstery steals the show. Showing no discernible wear and tear outside of some light bolster defects it's clear this example was well cared for in a prior life and the remaining materials show well too outside of some light haze on the acrylic rear window. The dash layout is easy to navigate and assumes a cockpit like feel, with controls for your HVAC switchgear and audio oriented toward the driver and within arms reach. Cold A/C is on tap, and necessary for cruising those hotter summer months, and hot heat is available if you want to deploy the top and attend a winter cruise-in. The adjacent factory audio works like a charm although you'll probably opt for the BEAMS' soundtrack instead. Both power windows work. as do the power locks and electric folding side mirrors. This cabin isn't just stylish, it's safe too, and Toyota included dual SRS airbags on this 1998 to give you and your copilot some peace of mind. The carpets are protected by a desirable set of OEM optional carpet mats too. Overall the interior really impresses, it feels just as individual as the exterior, and it's a treat to plop down in for a cruise!

The revision 4 MR2 gained a healthy upgrade to its running gear and the 3S-GE BEAMS is mounted midship, and revs to a healthy 8,000 RPM. For a limited production unit, a full service was in order when it arrived here at the shop and we made quick work of replacing the timing belt, water pump, and cam and crank seals while we were in there. A new valve cover gasket seals things up at the top, and we performed an oil and filter service to get you on track for scheduled maintenance. The 2.0 revs happily to highway speeds and a standard-issue automatic gearbox throws power to the rear wheels. To shore up the ride quality, we installed new struts all the way around, and took care of some leaky lower ball joints when we were in there. This runabout tackles the twisties with ease and the brakes do a swell job at stopping on a dime if need be. The Kumho rubber is brand spanking new on all four corners and should keep your midship investment safe to drive for years to come!
