Unlike most of these tiny car-based Ute's, the Jimny is a body-on-frame bruiser with some serious off-road chops. This modified 1997 is an absolute head turner, with its 2" lift, polished tubular bumpers, black alloys, and one-off Toffee Tan paint. Aside from a few light dings, chips, and scuffs the exterior is in good nick, and this 4x4 is fresh off a recent service. Boasting a mere 91k verified and documented miles, this turn-key mini SUV is ready to roll off our lot. Great for a weekend on the beach, running errands around the city, and everything in between, this Japanese Classic is affordable, cool, and capable!
The cabin is in good shape and includes enough space for four. The view from the driver's perspective is akin to a regular SUV, as this Suzuki is lifted and rides on larger tires. The dashboard lacks any cracking or fading and features a centrally located climate control system. A/C is equipped in this example, and while it won't get as cold as Siberia, it does provide relief from the summer heat. For these next few winter months, the heat makes daily driving more enjoyable as does the functional Kenwood audio upgrade. The seats are trimmed in a black cloth with period-correct blue accents. They lack any major rips, stains, or tears and are comfortable on longer jaunts. Rear occupants can enjoy a set of cupholders and pop-out rear glass for some extra ventilation. When more cargo space is required, the rear row tumbles forward. The headliner and door cards are in good nick, as is the carpet, aside from some light staining, Manual windows, mirrors, and locks are all close by and the Japanese owner's manuals are still in the glovebox!
The sturdy body on frame platform and solid front and rear axles are something you'd expect out of a Land Cruiser. Built just like the big boys, this Suzuki is the real deal and incredibly capable off the beaten path. The short wheelbase, low overhangs, and impressive ground clearance all pay dividends. The engine is also the largest available in this chassis. The big block G13B is fresh off an oil and filter service and whirls to life care of a new 12v battery. It has a pronounced sound thanks to a one-off free-flowing exhaust and a new engine air filter was installed to maximize power and MPG. The 1.3L is linked to an automatic gearbox. The Jimny won't win you any drag races, but the power level is just fine for bopping around town. Yes, they are freeway speed capable but it's a white-knuckle driving experience we don't recommend for long periods. The transfer case has setting for 2WD, and 4WD high and low. It is simple to operate and these little Suzuki's are impressive on loose surfaces like sand and mud. The aftermarket shocks and panhard bars can be found underneath the body and the platform can handle the rigors of daily use and abuse if that's in the cards. It isn't the most refined feeling but for the off-road capability, we see the value! The steering is direct and the turning radius is as tidy as any vehicle we retail. The brake feels confident reeling in this little SUV and grip is handled by four brand new Falken tires we mounted and balanced here in the shop.
