For daily commutes, weekend touge runs, or cruises to your local Cars & Coffee, no sedan gets it done quite like this Japanese Classic!

Exterior Overview

It’s hard to imagine a platform more versatile than the X100 Chaser, Cresta, and Mark II. Dubbed the “three brothers” in Japan, these sporty, luxurious, and reliable sedans still dominate the tarmac in the land of the rising sun. Considered the cream of the crop by most enthusiasts, models like this 1998 Chaser Tourer V are desirable, fun to drive, and lookers too. Finished in a sought-after Crystal Pearl (047), this Chaser is set off by OEM optional 3-piece aero and menacing privacy tint. It also assumes an aggressive stance, thanks to adjustable Cusco coilovers and Work Emotion WFT wheels. Save for some minor paint defects the cosmetics on this OEM plus drift taxi are in above-average shape overall and the 95k verified and documented miles on the clock are barely broken in on this trusty Toyota. For daily commutes, weekend touge runs, or cruises to your local Cars & Coffee, no sedan gets it done quite like this Japanese Classic!

Interior Overview

The interior is well-designed, and feels decidedly more upmarket than the X90 chassis that preceded it. A MoMo steering wheel greets the pilot and adds a sporty aesthetic. Geared for the new millennium, the patterned cloth seats are a bit sportier and show no discernible damage from the previous 25 years of road use. That’s not to say all upholstery is perfect, as we wanted to note some typical dash lift around the defrost vents. Designed with safety in mind, dual front and side SRS airbags bolster the cabin, and the driver can tailor the cockpit to their liking with a tilt and telescoping steering column. Set off by faux carbon accents, your accessories and power equipment are within arms reach, and the center stack features functional Pioneer audio and an easy-to-use digital automatic climate control system. As expected, cold A/C and hot heat both work in typical Toyota fashion, and all four power windows are operable if you prefer natural ventilation. The locks and factory keyless entry work too, as do the side mirrors, which electronically fold if you need to squeeze into a tight spot. The rear bench offers some space for additional passengers, and the trunk is gargantuan, setting this far apart from cramped modern sedans. The headliner is tidy, and the carpets have been kept in good nick. Save for some fading to the carbon trim, there’s little to complain about as a whole with this cabin! It even sports the OEM HID headlights with integrated electric adjustments, that can be set from the cabin.

Mechanical Overview

Under the hood lies a real powerhouse, Toyota’s flagship 1JZ-GTE. Refreshed for the X100 generation with VVT-i technology, this punchy and responsive turbo six is easy to service, and our trained technicians have set this one up with a comprehensive timing belt and water pump service, good for the next 10 years or 100,000 kilometers. We also took care of a new battery and an oil and filter service, and chucked in a new front main seal so you don’t leak any necessary lubricant. Both physical and auditory inputs are aided care of an HKS intake, Blitz intercooler, and ST garage turboback exhaust, which unlocks plenty of ponies from this robust turbocharged inline-six. A 5-speed gearbox is delightfully easy to pilot and sends the power rearward with haste. A factory LSD is on hand to aid cornering and works like a dream in tandem with the adjustable suspension. New front caster arm bushings were also installed to keep the platform safety-compliant. The steering is direct yet easy to maneuver, and factory ABS brakes clamp down with ferocity when you need to come to a screeching halt. The wheels are wrapped in new 17″ all-season tires. The new rubber quells road noise, and will last for tens of thousands of miles to come. Turn key and ready to rock, this powerful, rear-drive, stickshift sedan can be yours today!
