Reliable, stylish, and in great shape overall, this is a turn-key way to get yourself out there in a true Japanese Classic
Exterior Overview
Our diesel Hilux Surfs make great adventure mobiles, and this 1995 SSR-X leaves little to the imagination as it’s already decked out head to toe in swag! Better yet, it has a highly desirable manual transmission, loads of good preventative maintenance and service, and boasts a mere 142k miles on the clock. It also stuns on and off the tarmac, thanks to eye catching Emerald Green over Silver (29X) paintwork, a Roofnest tent, fold-out awning, and a 2″ OME lift. Rolling on refinished factory alloys clad in nearly new K02 rubber, this Surf is ideal for getting off the beaten path and there are no major imperfections to note cosmetically aside from some light paint chips and dings, which will likely be covered with mud 90% of the time. A factory spoiler, an optional OEM brushguard, and new PIAA driving lamps polish off the aesthetic, and this truck looks so good you’ll want to pack up and head straight to Moab! It even boasts a factory swingarm with a matching spare tire. A jack of all trades, and a master of fun, you can go anywhere in this Japanese Classic!
Interior Overview
The interior feels classic, and has plenty of modern amenities to both assist and pamper you throughout your day to day. It’s also in terrific shape and was clearly cared for in a prior life. The seats are upholstered in a durable patterned cloth, and the dash and accents are finished in a gray charcoal trim. Save for some repairs to the driver’s bolster and a hairline split atop the dash cover, the interior materials are in good shape overall. The center stack features an easy to use climate control unit, and an upgraded JVC touch screen, with US FM compatibility, CarPlay, upgraded speakers and a powered subwoofer under the seat to make the cabin shake! If you prefer to listen to the turbodiesel’s soundtrack, you can unfurl the power rear window to let in a fresh breeze. Also fully functional are power windows, locks, and mirrors, which aid daily use. The rear bench is spacious, and can fold flat to expand the cargo hold. The tweed headliner is in good shape, and the rest of the materials show well, from the black accented door cards to the plush carpet beneath, which is protected by some pricey OEM mats. Save for some light wear to the touch points around the center console, it’s hard to complain about this do-it-all cockpit!
Mechanical Overview
The 1KZ-TE powering this body on frame beast is a stout motor with a global reputation. We’ve easily sold hundreds of Surfs with this powerplant at this point, so the next owner should feel good about running and maintaining it stateside. It’s also gone through a comprehensive service here, and cranks over swiftly thanks to a factory dual battery system and new glow plugs. New serpentine belts drive your accessories reliably, and this stickshift Surf benefits from a BluSteel solid flywheel and clutch conversion. The gearbox finds its way through the tree reliably, and we performed a drain and fill on the front differential, transfer case, and rear differential to assist the selective 4WD system. Built out for overlanding, off-road traction is a must, and 4WD low is also handy for when the going gets tough. Proper ground clearance is also necessary, and we rehabbed the OME-lifted suspension with a new front left idler arm, new swaybar endlinks all the way around, and new inner and outer tie rods to shore up the steering. This N130 gobbles up any loose terrain in its way, and new pads and rotors help the platform come to an abrupt stop if needed. The BFG K02 rubber is nearly new and even matches on the factory spare. For trips on the trails or even the beach, a Roofnest tent easily deploys with a retractable awning in tow, creating an out of the box overlanding weapon! Reliable, stylish, and in great nick overall, this is an easy way to get yourself out there in a true Japanese Classic.
