Exterior Overview
Sure the Germans have the Leopard, and the Americans the M1 Abrams, but the ultimate tank was built by Toyota. Our 1997 Celsior was built to stand the test of time and this example has logged only a scant 31k verified and documented miles. In UCF speak, that’s barely broken in, as these V8’s regularly log half a million clicks. Finished in a lovely Diamond White (051), this properly proportioned saloon is accentuated by a subtle set of OEM rainguards. Aside from some light dings, chips, and scuffs the body is in good shape and this Type C is fresh off a recent service. Reliable, safe, and affordable, this Celsior is a safe bet for a daily driver, and turns plenty of heads at the local Cars and Coffee. Tough to kill, luxurious, and inexpensive to operate, this tough Japanese Classic is set to soldier on for another three decades!

Interior Overview
The cabin is spacious, loaded with options, and is in good shape. The driver benefits from an electric tilting/telescoping steering column and functional power folding mirrors, electric locks, and power windows which make daily use more enjoyable. The dashboard lacks any cracking or fading and houses dual SRS airbags for added peace of mind. Later Celsiors, like this one also featured dual-side SRS airbags, too. The center stack includes the touchscreen dual zone auto climate control system. Cold A/C and piping hot heat can be mixed through the cabin and below the OEM audio funnels in the tunes. The front seats are both powered and the tan cloth upholstery lacks any major rips, stains, or tears. The door cards, headliner, and carpets are all in good shape. That is not to say the cabin is perfect, as we wanted to note a missing piece of plastic trim by the mirror controls and a speedo that intermittently operates. Other than that it is hard to critique the cabin. Even a functional OEM air purifier is on hand, as are the original owner’s manuals and maintenance booklets!

Mechanical Overview
The 1UZ-FE under the hood is commonly associated with its low vibration characteristics and near bulletproof reliability. It whirrs to life care of a new 12v battery and is fresh off a recent oil and filter service. One of our trained techs refreshed the 1UZ with a set of new valve cover gaskets, to keep all the oil internal to the powerplant. A new engine air filter, set of spark plugs, and new fuel filter work to extract top-tier MPG, and this 4.0L pulls hard to redline. Acceleration is impressive and the gearbox is buttery smooth, even at wide open throttle. Power is fed to the rear wheels, as it should in a luxury sedan. We rehabbed the suspension with new shocks all around and new front caster arms. The cabin is remarkably well insulated against large and small potholes alike and offers an almost silent driving experience. The power steering is light, yet on point, and a fresh alignment will prolong the life of the brand new all-season tires that we mounted and balanced. The ABS brakes feel confident, bolstered by new rear brake pads, and this barge sails down the interstate with confidence. The standard cruise control works like a charm and offers superior comfort over longer hauls. Easy to service, and a joy to drive, this sedan gobbles up the miles and will continue to for years to come!
