These days, the need for frugal, reliable transportation is more important than ever, and if you can gain a bit of added luxury and Bentley-esque styling, why not spring for something like this 1998 Gloria Gran Turismo? This Y33 sedan is a head turner, with its White Pearl (QT1) paintwork and 18" Leon Hardiritt Ritter alloys. At only 57k verified and documented miles on the clock should make you feel good about purchasing this classic sedan. Sure the paintwork isn't perfect, the wheels are a tad scuffed up, and the left rear door was marked as replaced in Japan, but for a dependable daily commuter this Gloria is a perfect fit. Set off by OEM rainguards and lowering springs that eliminate any unwanted wheel gap, this Y33 looks great, drives smooth and shares plenty of parts with models here in the states for easy servicing. For those reasons, we'd be hard pressed to call this GT anything except a bonafide Japanese Classic!
The interior is plush, spacious, and is packed with enough safety features and amenities to make daily driving in the 21st century a breeze. The front seats are upholstered in a durable velvety cloth and are bolstered with SRS side airbags for optimal safety behind the wheel. Additionally, two SRS airbags are present up front as well. No discernible defects are shown in the upholstery and the vinyl dash cover is in good nick too. The center stack is framed in an attractive tortoise shell trim and houses a trick OEM multifunction display that seamlessly integrates audio controls with a simple to use automatic climate control system. As one might expect, hot heat works in the throes of winter and cold A/C isn't too far behind for when things warm up. The audio quality is above average overall and a handsome enclosure houses two subwoofers in the trunk for a bit of extra thump. All four power windows go up and down without a hitch, and the power moonroof can unfurl rapidly should you want some natural light to flow throughout the cabin. Further aiding accessibility, the power locks and electric side mirrors work too, aside from the power folding function. The door cards and rear bench have resisted any serious wear and tear, and the carpets have been kept tidy care of some OEM carpet mats. This cabin seats 5, looks great, and overall should suit all future occupants well. We even retained the factory owners manual and additional literature so you can protect your investment!
A good, dependable sedan needs a powerplant that's economical, predictable, and easy to operate and service. Fortunately, this VQ25DE checks all the boxes as it shares a structure with Infiniti's and Nissan's offered here in the states. Ours has been fully serviced by our trained technicians and we chucked in a new 12v battery to aid ignition. As typical of most old vehicles a number of oil leaks needed to be addressed, and we replaced a leaky rear main seal and oil pan gasket so this 2.5 stays topped up on lubricant from the fresh oil and filter service. With the maintenance performed and a new engine air filter she runs right as rain and the VQ is a treat to putt around town or launch onto the highway. An automatic gearbox throws power rearward and we replaced a seal at the rear pinion to keep all gear lubricant internal. The lowered suspension feels planted and comfortable overall, the power steering is light and direct, and the ABS brakes stop on a dime. The Leon Hardiritts are wrapped in fresh rubber that's knee deep in tread and good for tens of thousands of miles of uninterrupted traction!
