The Hilux Surf is a midsize SUV that everyone seems to love. This 1996 is a special one, with its determined diesel engine, handsome looks, and surefooted 4WD. Finished in a classic Desert Dune Metallic (1A5) this rig is set off by OEM rainguards, a polished OEM front bullbar, refinished OEM 16" alloys, an aggressive factory rear spoiler, and OEM spare tire swingarm. Aside from a few dings, chips, and scuffs the paint is in good shape and this SSR-G model is fresh off a recent service. Boasting only 143k verified and documented miles on the ticker, this beast is barely broken in and turn-key ready to go! A superstar at the campsite, and a wonderful daily driver, these Surfs seem to do everything well. Reliable, collectible, and easy to service, this Japanese Classic is our best seller for a reason! 

The cabin is in good shape and includes several upgrades and power features. Even some safety upgrades were fitted to this generation, including dual front SRS airbags and ABS brakes. The dashboard lacks any cracking or fading and the center stack includes a simple-to-use automatic climate control system. A/C and heat are available on demand and if you prefer more natural ventilation, the rear glass, side windows, and sunroof all power open for a fresh breeze. The driver benefits from adjustable lumbar support and an adjustable steering column to find the ideal driving position. Power folding mirrors and power locks make daily use more enjoyable and work in typical Toyota fashion. The upholstery is in above average shape and lacks any major rips, stains, or tears. The Moon Mist cloth is also durable! The headliner and door cards look good and aside from some light carpet stains, its hard to complain about the cabin! It even has the rare OEM TV/Radio and factory field monitor for those who love cool JDM options. 

Under the skin, this truck shares a frame with the USDM 4Runner. Upgrades and maintenance items can be had on the cheap and our parts department can locate almost any diesel part and most can be found here in the US. The 1KZ-TE is fresh off an oil and filter service and it churns to life care of two new 12v batteries. The fuel filter and engine air filter were replaced so that this 3.0L operates seamlessly, and we also replaced the serpentine belts with a brand new set. To shore up the four-banger, we installed a brand new valve cover gasket so that all the lubricant stays internal. The engine is linked to a stout automatic gearbox that makes great use of its prodigious supply of torque. New transmission fluid has replaced the old stuff, and this auto shifts just as it should. For top-tier fuel economy and performance, 2WD is best but the selective transfercase allows the driver to engage 4WD on the fly. Even better, a low range and center locker can be deployed to keep momentum moving forward, even in the worse weather scenarios. One of our trained techs has replaced the front lower control arms and rear upper trailing arms to give the suspension a refresh. The platform handles uneven pavement with confidence and the multilink design pays dividends off the beaten path, too. The brakes feel confident and the split spoke alloys are wrapped in new rubber at each corner. The new tires not only look mean but will deliver all the grip necessary for tens of thousands of miles of year-round use. To polish it off we performed a fresh alignment to maximize tire wear. The power steering is light and this rig goes exactly where you point it!
