The J100 Land Cruiser is a modern SUV through and through. It's got a hearty V8, FullTime 4WD, and a seven-decades-long reputation for reliability and capability.

Exterior Overview

The J100 Land Cruiser is a modern SUV through and through. It’s got a hearty V8, FullTime 4WD, and a seven-decades-long reputation for reliability and capability. This Natural White (057) VX-L model is a stunner. Set off by stylish 17×8 Nomad wheels, an OEM rear tire carrier, factory rainguards, and meaty 33″ rubber, this 1998 is all business. Aside from a few light dings, chips, and scuffs the paint is in good shape and this rig is fresh off a recent service. Offered for sale with only 99k verified and documented miles, this Toyota is turn-key ready to roll. Refined, roomy, and safe, it’s no wonder why so many of these are still on the road today. With class-leading toughness and a price that won’t break the bank, you know this certified Japanese Classic is too dang good!

Interior Overview

The cabin is expansive and nicely optioned. Optional equipment like a large retractable sunroof is on hand, to make the interior feel more open. The driver and passenger can rest assured knowing dual SRS airbags are standard, for some added peace of mind. To make daily driving more enjoyable, power windows, power-folding mirrors, and electric door locks work in typical Toyota fashion. It even has functional headlight washers that can be run with the press of a button. The automatic climate control system is intuitive to operate, and cold A/C is on hand for these last few hot weeks of the year. For the winter ahead, piping-hot heat is available, too! The seats are comfortable and are upholstered in a tan textured cloth. They lack any major rips, stains, or tears and were cared for overseas. The driver gains a tilt-adjustable steering column power adjustable lumbar support to find the ideal driving position. The middle row can tumble forward to create more cargo room when necessary. The door cards are in good nick, as is the headliner, and the cargo area has held up well over the past quarter century. OEM audio supplements the V8 soundtrack under the hood and few squeaks and rattles permeate the driving experience, compared to downmarket SUV options from lesser manufacturers. Aside from some light carpet stains, it’s tough to nitpick the cockpit, and this Land Cruiser is in wonderful shape from the inside out.

Mechanical Overview

The body on frame platform and driveline are shared with our Stateside Landy’s, making service as easy as it gets. This illustrious V8 is also shared with the Tundra, and known for its bulletproof nature. The 2UZ-FE is fresh off an oil and filter service and turns over promptly care of a new 12v battery. To keep the electronics properly charged one of our trained technicians replaced the alternator with a new unit. The DOHC mill pulls hard to redline and is mated to a stout automatic gearbox. The FullTime 4WD system feels surefooted and includes a center-locking differential and low gearing for the occasional off-road expedition. For use over pavement, the 100 is at the top of our list. The soft suspension isolates against road imperfections and is ideal for daily use and abuse over our less-than-perfect American tarmac. The power steering is light yet direct and a new set of rear sway bar endlinks were installed to aid handling. A fresh alignment prevents accelerated tire wear on the brand new 33″ Falken tires we mounted and balanced while the Toyota was on the lift. The ABS brakes feel confident and cabin squeaks and rattles are at a minimum. Turn key and ready to hit the open road, this lovable Land Cruiser is one heck of a truck!
