Safe, spacious, feature-filled, and smooth, luxury, rear-drive five-seaters like this one are getting harder to find by the day.

Exterior Overview

The executive-class sedans produced in Japan during the waning days of the 1990s were some truly incredible designs. They feel like modern cars, and this Aristo is a fine example of a premium JDM saloon. Safe, spacious, feature-filled, and smooth, luxury rear-drive five-seaters like this one are getting harder to find by the day. Finished in a lovely Diamond White (051) this 1998 is set off by an OEM spoiler and OEM rainguards. Aside from a few light chips, dings, and scuffs the body is in good shape and this Toyota is fresh off a recent service. Offered with a mere 56k verified and documented miles on the clock, this JZS160 is barely broken in. Ideal as a reliable daily driver, a clean VIP platform to build, or as a unique family cruiser this chassis is a certified Japanese Classic.

Interior Overview

The interior is in far above-average shape and was clearly cared for in Japan. Toyota put a heavy emphasis on safety for this generation and dual front and side airbags became standard as did traction control. Both occupants can find the ideal seating position with power adjustable seats and even the steering column is electric and can tilt and telescope. These comfy cruisers gobble up highway miles, and the cruise control function can be engaged with a stalk to the left of the wheel. Power folding mirrors, power locks, and electric one-touch windows all work in typical Toyota fashion and make daily use more enjoyable. The center stack includes an impressive OEM JBL audio system and the touchscreen display includes all of the climate controls. Both systems function as they should and are intuitive to operate. The heat is boiling hot and the A/C is cold for those motoring in more seasonal locations. Itr should be noted the A/C compressor was replaced and is brand new. The cloth upholstery is unique to the Aristo model and is in above average shape, lacking any major, rips, stains, or tears. The matching door cards are in the same shape and the carpet and headliner have resisted major wear and tear over the years. The OEM carpet mats and a OEM navigation disk are even included with the purchase!

Mechanical Overview

Service and parts are a snap, as this Aristo shares a driveline and running gear with our Stateside GS300 models. The 2JZ-GE engine has a legendary reputation for reliability and this one is fresh off a recent service. Quiet and low vibration, these sweet sixes are silky smooth! A new battery helps the 3.0L chug to life and an oil and filter service was performed as soon as it got up on the lift. A new engine air filter works to maximize fuel economy and this VVT-i-equipped six makes impressive low-end power and offers decent throttle response. Power is fed to the rear wheels care of a stout automatic gearbox. It makes good use of the 2Js powerband and shifts properly. Sustained highway cruising is effortless and comfortable and the soft suspension soaks up bumps with the best of them. For state inspection, we replaced the caster arms and performed a fresh alignment. The ABS brakes are responsive and benefit from brand-new pads up front and out back. The power steering is light and on point and grip comes from four new all-season tires that were mounted and balanced at each corner. Turn key and ready to rock, this Toyota sedan packs a lot of value for the price, and is one of the most trustworthy JDM platforms out there on the market!
