The Surf is our best-selling platform, and for good reason. This one is easy to service, as it shares a driveline with our domestic 4Runners. Highly capable and easy on the eyes, this 1998 is a special rig. Finished in a one-off Bravo Black, this SSR-X is set off by 16" Berg SV-5 alloys, OEM rainguards, chrome bumpers, and some subtle privacy tint. Aside from a few scrapes, dings, and chips the body is in fair shape and this SSR-X is fresh off a recent service. Having clocked a mere 105k verified and documented miles, this truck is much fresher than your average Stateside options. Perfect as a year-round daily driver, cool weekend cruiser, or fun family car, this terrific Toyota would be up to the task. Reliable, safe, and practical, this Japanese Classic is our volume leader for a reason!

The cabin is clean, spacious, and nicely appointed. The highlight of the interior is the beautiful colored upholstery on the seating surfaces. They lack any major rips, stains, or tears and jazz up the cockpit. The driver benefits from a tilt-adjustable steering wheel and adjustable lumbar support. A Kenwood head unit upgrade is close by and is located next to a fully functional automatic climate system. Heat and A/C can be mixed on demand and if you prefer more natural ventilation power windows can be unfurled as can the rear glass. The power locks and mirrors also work, making daily use more enjoyable. The dashboard lacks any cracking or fading and both front occupants can rest assured knowing dual SRS airbags are standard equipment. The door cards are in good nick and the headliner and carpets have escaped the past 25 years without sustaining major damage. Even the owner's manuals, maintenance booklets, and original Toyota Rescue Man seat belt slicer and window breaking tool are included in the purchase.

Mechanically, this platform offers many advantages over your run-of-the-mill import. The driveline, including the 2.7L 3RZ-FE, is the same as our domestic N185s. The four-banger is fresh off an oil and filter service and churns to life with the twist of the key. A new 12v battery and new engine air filter were installed while it was on the lift and the 3RZ feels healthy as a horse. Power is fed through an automatic gearbox to the rear wheels or all four depending on the driver's preference. The transfer case in this example is special and it's rare to see the center locker on a four cylinder gasser, yet this one has it! That means this rig will make quick work of loose sand and snow when grip is needed the most. Low range can be utilized as well when traversing the worst road conditions and the system is easy to operate. The ABS brakes do a great job of slowing this truck down and grip is handled by four new 31" Falken tires mounted and balanced at each corner. Most of our work was giving the suspension a refresher and boy did it pay off. New rear shocks and new rear control arms deliver a premium overall road feel. Large and small potholes are absorbed with confidence and we polished off the reconditioning with a fresh alignment and new front sway bar end links. That was the tires last as long as possible and this power steering equipped SUV goes right where you point it!
