Stock #6315The Toyota die-hard knows this Surf is a special one. Lifted with new Bilsteins and powered by a legendary turbo diesel, the buyer of this KZN185 even gets to row their own gears! This 1997 SSR-X is fresh off a recent service, and is turn-key and ready to roll. Offered with a scant 111k verified miles, this rig is barely broken in. Finished in a Grayish Purple Metallic (926) with bedlined lower cladding, this Surf is set off by a set of wide, refinished OEM Land Cruiser alloys shod with 33" Faken all-terrain tires. Other cosmetic upgrades include an OEM bash bar, OEM rainguards, a rear spoiler, and some aggressive privacy tint. Perfect as a pavement-pounding passenger sled, cool campsite cruiser, or fun family hauler, this Japanese Classic 4x4 is a top-tier Toyota. The cabin features a clean design, some decent power features, and a good amount of room for family, friends, and cargo. It also includes a few upgrades, such as the functional Addzest head unit, which pipes tunes through the cabin and looks cooler than the other side of the pillow. The driver benefits from a tilt-adjustable steering column and adjustable lumbar support to find the ideal driving position. The dashboard is in good shape and lacks any major cracking or distortion. There is a single tiny hole from an accessory mount located by the top of the glovebox, but it's hardly noticeable. Dual SRS front airbags are standard, for those who may be safety conscious, as are ABS brakes. The center stack is close by, and the controls for the automatic climate system are intuitive to use. Cold A/C blasts into the cabin thanks to a new compressor, and piping hot heat can be mixed during the winter months. The rear hatch glass powers down as the electric windows can be retracted for more natural ventilation if you prefer. Power locks and electric mirrors make daily use more enjoyable, and this Surf features a rare OEM trash receptacle located in the passenger footwell. The seats are in good shape and lack any major rips, stains, or tears. The middle row four-way reclines and also tumbles forward to fold flat and accommodate more cargo. The headliner and door cards are in fine shape and even the owner's manual has been retained for originality's sake. That's not to say the cabin is perfect as the driver door card has an inch-long crack and the carpet has some light staining. Still at 25 years old the condition is impressive and even the OEM owners manuals are included with this truck's purchase.Sharing a frame and body with our domestic 4Runners, parts sourcing and servicing is easy as pie. The engine is this truck's crown jewel, the 1KZ-TE. This nearly bulletproof four-banger churns to life care of two new 12v batteries and is fresh off an oil and filter service. We have replaced the fuel filter, as we do with all of our diesels, and the 1K feels hearty as a horse. It's linked to a true five-speed gearbox that is a blast to row, and the transmission lacks any grinding or hitches. For the best acceleration and fuel economy, the selective transfer case allows the driver to utilize 2WD for most driving scenarios. For sand and snow use, 4WD can be engaged on the fly, and an optional center locker can be deployed to fix torque distribution to 50/50 fore and aft. One of our trained technicians replaced the front output seal for some added peace of mind. The suspension was also heavily refreshed and improved. New OME springs and Bilstein shocks were added at each corner, and we also replaced both the upper and lower rear control arms, as well as the front lower control arms, too. A known failure point, new front lower ball joints were installed, and so we could dial in a fresh alignment, we replaced the front inner and outer tie rods. Predictable and communicative, the 2" lift has done wonders for the ride. The power steering is light, and this Surf is easy to maneuver and park around the city. New front and rear sway bar end links were also chucked on the rear for good measure before it dropped off the lift. The ABS brakes feel confident and grip is handled by four new 33" Falken tires mounted and balanced at each corner. They match the tough guy aesthetic, reduce road noise, and will provide grip for tens of thousands of miles to come.*California Residents: In order to register a Grey Market vehicle in the state of California then it will have to be made CARB compliant first.
