Exterior Overview
The 986 Boxster doesn’t come up in the budget roadster discussion nearly as much as it should, as it’s a top performer, and up there with some of Porsche’s best designs. Our 1997 is a sweet ride, boasting a punchy mid-mounted flat-six, a slick shifting 5 speed manual gearbox, and plenty of service and TLC performed by our trained technicians. Finished in Ocean Blue Metallic (3AZ), this droptop is in above average cosmetic condition, save for a few paint blemishes and dings. It boasts a brand new soft top, and is completely unmodified. It also boasts 63k verified miles, which are impressive on a vehicle of this vintage. As we trudge through the warmer months, this would be the perfect summer cruiser. It’s stylish, crafted, and dare we say quick. Although it isn’t Japanese, we’re deeming this one a classic nonetheless!

Interior Overview
The interior is well designed and really makes you feel like you’re driving a baby 911. The cockpit is geared towards the driver, and the black cloth upholstery is in good nick and extremely easy to maintain. Showing no major rips, stains, or tears, it complements the soft-touch dash nicely. Dual SRS airbags are present up front to keep things safe, and the center stack is accented by amber backlighting that epitomizes the classic Euro driving experience. Factory digital automatic climate control is easy to operate, and cold A/C and hot heat are fully functional so you can prioritize cabin comfort. Adjacent to the HVAC, OEM audio works like a charm, and the sound quality is far above average. Power windows, locks, and mirrors work as advertised, and the power soft top retracts on the fly for open air cruising. There’s a fair amount of storage space in this mid engine roadster. The bonnet reveals a compartment for your luggage, and there’s a decent sized boot as well. Even premium makes have their pitfalls, and although this Boxster was well cared for we did want to note some light bolster wear on the driver’s seat, and a couple spots of discoloration on the dash and interior plastics. As an added bonus, the original carpet mats are included, and in great shape!

Mechanical Overview
The watercooled M96.20 engine under the bonnet is an excellent pairing for this chassis. For being a smaller displacement six cylinder, it’s chock full of torque and really helps this roadster get out of its own way, and the chassis’ low center of gravity allows for handling that’s second to none. Our trained technicians have given this Boxster a once-over, starting with a new 12v battery that we plopped in to aid ignition. It’s fresh off an oil and filter service, and a new engine air filter and fuel filter keep any contaminants from going internal. It runs like a top, despite a small chain rattle on startup, and jets up to highway speeds abruptly. The 5 speed box is easy to shift through the tree, and power is hammered down to the rear wheels. The suspension is comfortable and compliant, thanks to new front swaybar links, and delivers the driving dynamics you’d expect from a Porsche. That means the steering is top-tier, and the brakes bite with ferocity when you approach a hairpin. We wrapped the stock alloys in fresh rubber all the way around, and an alignment was performed to maximize tire life. The 986 Boxster is exotic fun on a budget, and we think the next owner will get a kick out of driving this one!
