Exterior Overview
Crew Cab pickups like this 1997 are adept at many things, including passenger carrying. This rugged D22 is a fun little pickup, with its surefooted 4×4 underpinnings and manual gearbox. Finished in a menacing Black over Gray (1T5) two-tone, this pickup is set off by fresh bedliner, refinished 15″ aftermarket wheels, chrome mirror caps, privacy tint, and OEM rainguards. Aside from a few light dings, chips, and scrapes associated with normal use, the body is in good shape and this five-seater is fresh off a recent service. Interior Overview
Ingress and egress is a high point of the D22 and those riding in the front and back simply slide into and out of the cabin. Some decent equipment is included such as functional automatic climate control with cold A/C and piping hot heat on the ready. For more natural ventilation, the windows can be unfurled electrically. Power locks and power mirrors make daily use more enjoyable and work like a charm. For a classic pickup, it was nice of Nissan to consider driver safety, as a SRS airbag is affixed to the wheel. OEM audio is within arms reach and intuitive to use. The unit supplies a soundtrack to compliment your commute and sounds decent for a truck of this age. The tan textured upholstery is in good shape and lacks any major rips, stains, or tears. The same material is mirrored in the door cards which are in equally good nick. The carpets and headliners have withstood the past 25 years without major abuse and aside from a nonfunctional power folding function on the driver’s side mirror, it’s really hard to complain about the cabin. Even the owner’s manuals and OEM carpet mats are included with the purchase of this darling little pickup.
Mechanical Overview
Body on frame and able to take a licking and keep on ticking, this design is a robust one. The same can be said for the KA24E, which was sold here stateside, meaning parts and service options are readily available. As soon as it got into the shop, an oil and filter service was performed and we also installed a new 12v battery to aid ignition. To give the four-banger a new lease on life, we replaced the worn-out leaking old valve cover gasket with a new one. While we were in there, a new set of spark plugs and wires were chucked in to atomize fuel properly. A new distributor, rotor, and cap were replaced too, for good measure. The manual transmission shifts well and lacks any hitches or grinds. We installed a new clutch and pilot bushing to save the new owner a major expense. This repair will allow the new owner to hit the road stress-free. The selectable transfer case allows the driver to select between two and four-wheel drive. For low traction scenarios and vacations on the beach, a low range is on standby to keep momentum moving forward. The power steering is on point and provides decent feedback for a truck and the ABS brakes feel tight and tidy. New front brake pads were installed to reduce stopping distances. The suspension can handle the rigors of daily use and abuse and grip comes from four brand new 31″ Falkens that were mounted and balanced at each corner. The new rubber looks aggressive, quells road noise, and will last for tens of thousands of miles to come.
