Americans see value in JDM SUVs. These 4x4 are unusually in superior condition and have logged fewer miles than their stateside counterparts. This 1997 Land Cruiser is a stellar unit, and is turn key and ready to roll. Offered with a mere 127k verified and documented clicks on the odometer, this Toyota is powered by the same gasoline engine found in our domestic 4Runners and is fresh off a recent service. Finished in a lovely Blueish Silver Metallic over Gray (K02), the paint is in good nick aside from some light scuffs, dings, and scuffs associated with normal use. Set off by a set of OEM raingaurds, chrome mirror caps, a sweet OEM bash bar, and gunmetal refinished OEM alloys, a tow hitch and some classy privacy tint, this TX model is a looker! Ideal as a refined family hauler, reliable daily driver, or capable weekend warrior, this Japanese Classic is affordable, well-rounded, and practical!
The cabin is spacious, nicely appointed, and has been cared for in a prior life. The driver and passenger can both rest assured knowing ABS and dual SRS front airbags are standard. The dashboard lacks any cracking or fading and features decent ergonomics. A simple to use digital climate system pumps out cold A/C for these dog days of summer and the heat functions for those living in colder climates. If you prefer more natural ventilation, a large power moonroof retracts and the rear windows pop out! A Kenwood touchscreen audio system supplies a soundtrack to supplement your drive and modernizes the interior aesthetic. Best of all an integrated Alpine backup camera makes parking a breeze, as this beast is capable of rolling over the hood of a Hyundai Sonata without much difficulty. The driver benefits from a tilt-adjustable steering column and power windows, locks, and power-folding mirrors all function and make daily driving enjoyable. The seats are upholstered in a colorful cloth. The pattern jazzes up the dour interior colors and the material lacks any major rips stains or tears. The optional third row stows up on the d-pillar when cargo is prioritized and the middle row can slide and tumble forward as well. The door cards feature the same material and are in good nick. The headliner and carpets have withstood the past 25 years without sustaining major abuse and even the owners manuals are included in the purchase! That's not to say the cabin is perfect as we wanted to mention the Field Monitor is difficult to read as the display is UV damaged, the shifter leather is worn, and the cup holder cover is missing on the center console.
Based on the bones of a N180 4Runner, this Prado is inexpensive to maintain and parts and upgrades are readily available. The heart of this rig is the trusty 3RZ-FE. This peppy gas four banger is fresh off an oil and filter service, and chugs to life with the twist of a key. To ensure that you aren't left stranded, we installed a new 12v battery and tested the alternator while we were at it. While it tested properly, the belts were dry cracked and in need of a change, so we replaced all three. We also addressed a minor oil leak at the distributor, and the 2.7L runs like a top. It's mated to a stout automatic that shifts just like it should. Power is fed to both axles through a Full-Time 4WD system. For beach outings and weekends on the trails, a low-range 4WD and center locker can be engaged to increase grip. Cruising at sustained highway speeds is comfortable and effortless. One of our trained techs has replaced the rear shocks to smooth out the ride and we also installed new front axle seals to shore up the driveline. Equipped with ABS this big Ute stops promptly when required. New front brake hoses and pads were installed while up on the lift by one of our trained technicians. The steering is on point and new rack bushing and swaybar links ensure the driver stays connected to the road. The new 31" Falken tires are knee-deep in tread and a fresh alignment will maximize tire wear. Turn key and ready to rock, this Japanese Classic is a surefire bet.
