Exterior Overview
The R33 is a modern sports car by definition. A punchy turbo engine, rear drive layout, and balanced chassis define this model, and our 1995 is a special example. Finished in a fresh coat of Cypress Green Pearl (g82p), this lowered sport coupe is set off a set of 17″ Enkei TS5 alloys, an OEM optional aero bumper, OEM optional sideskirts and a stylish OEM spoiler. Aside from a few light imperfections, the body is in good shape and this Skyline is fresh off a recent service in our shop. Offered with a mere 59k verified and documented miles on the clock, this turn-key Type M is fresh off a thorough recent service, which included a new timing belt and water pump. Perfectly suited as a sporty daily driver, autocross all-star, or cool weekend cruiser, this Japanese Classic is an all around top performer. Fast, reliable, fun, and collectible, this nifty Nissan leaves little to be desired!
Interior Overview
The R33’s interior has always been a highlight of the chassis, and it’s one of the roomiest vintage Nissans we’ve seen to boot. The materials and amenities are quality, from the soft-touch vinyl dash to the durable patterned cloth seats, which have resisted any unwanted wear and tear over the years. A compact MOMO steering wheel was also installed, giving extra breathing room to our larger American frames. Additional comfort items include a tilt adjustable steering column for the driver, and a digital automatic climate control unit that pumps cold A/C and hot into the cabin with haste. Adjacent to the HVAC, period-correct JVC audio works like a charm and fits right in with the 90’s aesthetic. As you’d expect, the power windows, locks, and mirrors are operable, although the electric folding function no longer operates. Still, that does little to take away from the condition of the cabin as the remaining upholstery is tight and tidy, from the headliner to the carpets beneath. We think the 33’s interior design has aged quite gracefully, and this is one of the nicer examples we’ve seen in recent memory. Other than an inoperable antenna, it’s hard to critique.
Mechanical Overview
Nissan is known for its RB series of inline six powerplants. The RB25DET is a wonderful version of the mill, and ours is fresh off an oil and filter service. The 2.5L churns to life quickly, care of a new 12v battery and idles with nary a vibration. New accessory belts have been installed to keep engine bay squeaks to a minimum and all the electronics can remain properly powered! A new fuel filter works to keep unwanted contaminants out of the engine, and six new spark plugs are on hand to assist combustion. Best of all, we performed the most expensive and involved preventative maintenance item! A new timing belt, water pump and thermostat were all taken care of by one of our trained techs to add some peace of mind for whomever purchases the vehicle. The 2.5L feels healthy and pulls hard to redline. Originally mated to a 4 speed slushbox, this R33 was swapped with a factory 5 speed that fits like a glove and lacks any grinding or synchro issues. As quickly as it accelerates, it stops just as fast. New front brake pads work to reduce stopping distances and will last for a good long while to come. With its rear drive architecture, this R33 achieves near perfect 50/50 weight distribution. The suspension was refreshed with new front caster arms for state inspection and brand new adjustable coilovers were installed at each corner. The Enkei wheels are all wrapped in new all-season tires. The new rubber quells road noises and will provide tens of thousands of miles of grip for a while to come thanks to a fresh alignment. Turn key and ready to roll this stunning Skyline is a joy to look at and a blast to drive!
