Stock #6226The Surf is one tough cookie of a truck, and it is our best-selling SUV. This 1997 is a top-tier model, with its intercooled 3.0L diesel and trusty 4WD. Finished in Black (204) this rig is set off by refinished 16" alloys, a factory rear spare tire swing arm, an aggressive rear spoiler, privacy tint, and a scooped sport hood, its nothing less than eye-catching. Aside from a few light dings, chips, and scuffs the paint is in good shape and this Toyota is fresh off a recent service. Having logged only 131k verified and documented miles, this Ute is barely broken in. Reliable, performance-oriented, and highly collectible, these Surfs make for wonderful daily drivers, unique overlanders, and efficient family haulers. Japanese Classics like these don't break the bank, and are cult favorites to this day, twenty-five years after they rolled off dealer lots! The cabin leaves little to be desired and is in good shape overall. It comes with a few upgrades such as the optional power sunroof and a Bluetooth-equipped Kenwood audio system. The driver benefits from a tilted adjustable steering column and adjustable lumbar support, and a rear backup mirror that drops down from the spoiler. Power folding mirrors, power locks, and power windows all work as advertised making daily use enjoyable. Located by the map lights, an optional OEM Field monitor displays the outside conditions to those in the cabin. The seating surfaces are in good shape and lack any major rips, stains, or tears. The middle row is four-way reclinable and also tumbles forward and folds flat to create a sizable cargo area. For lengthy 2x4s, the rear window powers down into the tailgate. The headliner and door cards are in good nick and aside from some light carpet staining and a bit of dash distortion by the corner of the glove box it's really hard to complain about the interior. Under the hood is one of Toyota's crown jewels, the 1KZ-TE. This intercooled version makes more power and runs lower EGTs than its non-intercooled sibling. Fresh off an oil and filter service the 3.0L churns to life care of a new 12v battery. One of our trained techs replaced the valve cover gasket and half-moon seals with new ones while it was on the lift. A new fuel filter was taken care of too, and it keeps unwanted contaminants out of the 1K. The little four banger feels hearty as a horse and pulls strong to redline. It's linked to a stout automatic gearbox that shifts just as it should. Low down torque is impressive, and this Surf scoots from stoplight to stoplight. The selective transfer case has settings for 2WD and 4WD high and low. If a beach outing is planned or some bad snow comes your way, an optional OEM center locker can be engaged for extra traction. The transfercase is simple to operate and we have replaced the front output seal so it operates seamlessly. The suspension has been given a heavy refresh and is confident and smoother than most KZN185s we see. New front and rear shocks sort out the ride, and new front lower control arms were replaced. The power steering is light, on point, and easy to maneuver through tighter confines. New right front inner and outer tie rods were installed and this beauty was then aligned. Grip comes from new Falken tires mounted and balanced at each corner and this ABS-equipped five-seater slows down quite well thanks to new rear brake shoes and new front rotors and pads. Turn key and ready to rock this ultimate Toyota is a winner through and through!*California Residents: In order to register a Grey Market vehicle in the state of California then it will have to be made CARB compliant first.
