The 3rd generation Hilux Surf is nearly unkillable, and if you don't believe us, just hop on marketplace and see how many of these rigs are still alive and kicking. Tough, reliable, and inexpensive to service, the platform is one of Toyota's best creations. This 1996 features the same quad cam V6 offered Stateside, and ours has some cosmetic options that set this one apart from the LHD crowd. Finished in a gorgeous Desert Dune Metallic (1A5), this SSR-G is set off by a rare OEM spare tire hardcover mounted on a factory swingarm, an aggressive rear spoiler, privacy tint, refinished WEDS alloys, and a rare OEM bashbar. Aside from a few light dings, chips, and scuffs the paint is in good nick and this Surf is fresh off a recent service which included a new timing belt and water pump. Boasting only 138k verified and documented miles, this N185 is offered with a fraction of the miles of many American examples, and is turn-key ready to roll. Determined, handsome, and rewarding to own, this Japanese Classic would make a wonderful daily driver, cool campsite companion, or unique family hauler.

The cabin is in good nick and was cared for overseas. The dashboard lacks any cracking or fading and dual SRS airbags are standard. An upgraded Eclipse touchscreen headunit modernizes the center stack and works like a charm. Above an OEM field monitor keeps those along for the ride informed about the outside conditions and direction of travel.  The driver benefits from a tilt-adjustable steering column and adjustable lumbar support to find the ideal position to pilot this beast. All the seating surfaces are in good nick and lack any major rips, stains, or tears. Power windows, door locks, and mirrors make daily use more enjoyable and work like a charm. The A/C is primed for summer and the automatic climate control can mix in some heat for these last remaining cold mornings of the year. If you prefer more natural ventilation, the rear window powers down into the tailgate. The middle row can also tumble forward and fold flat to accommodate more cargo. The headliner and carpets are in good shape and have resisted major abuse over the years. That's not to say the cabin is perfect as we wanted to note the driver door card has a small tear and the power folding function of the driver mirror has given up the ghost. Still, at 25 years old the condition is impressive and even the original owner's manual is included with the purchase.

Sharing almost all components with domestic 4Runners, this rig is easy to service and maintain. The 5VZ-FE under the hood is a legendary engine and this one is fresh off an oil and filter service. The 3.4L churns to life care of a new 12v battery and runs smoothly thanks to a new set of spark plugs, spark plug wires, and a new fuel filter. Thermal management is handled by a new thermostat that installed while it was on the lift. The most expensive preventative maintenance items, a timing belt and water pump service was performed by one of our trained techs. Also pricey, a new oil pump was taken care of, which isn't a fun job! This will save the new owner some serious coin and they can rest assured that an immediate road trip can be taken. The V6 is mated to a stout automatic transmission that shifts just as it should. The selective 4WD allows the driver to shift between 2WD and 4WD on the fly. For low traction scenarios, a center locker can fix power 50/50 fore and aft, and a low range 4WD is on hand as well. The suspension was heavily refreshed to give this Surf a new lease on life, and it drives quite well. New rear upper and lower control arms were replaced as were the rear lower shock bushings. The front left ball joint was showing excess play so that was addressed as well, with a new unit. The truck rides nicely now and can handle all the rigors of daily use and abuse. The ABS brakes are confident and the power steering is direct. New  31" tires have been mounted and balanced at each corner. The meaty all terrains quiet down the road noise and will last for tens of thousands of miles to come.
