This 1996 Hilux Surf is a capable and durable SUV. With plenty of room for five and a rugged 4x4 chassis, these trucks will take you anywhere you like, even if it's off the beaten path. This rig is powered by the same punchy 3.4L V6 found in the 4Runnner which makes this legally imported and recently serviced Japanese Classic one of the most convenient ownership experiences. Boasting a mere 88K verified miles, this SSR-G has been color changed to Agate Black from its factory silver and is in good nick aside from some minor dings and chips. Refined enough to daily drive and rugged enough to off-road, this unique all-around performer is highly collectible and enjoyable to drive as well!

The interior is roomier and utilizes more premium materials than the N130 generation Surfs. Major changes include standard dual SRS airbags, a lift-up tailgate, and more cargo area. The dash is in good shape and lacks any cracking or distortion that plague the second-generation models. The view of the road ahead is clear and commanding as the ride height allows the driver to see above traffic. A gauge suite sits atop the windshield and includes a digital compass if you happen to get lost during your travels. An automatic climate control system is simple to use and features cold A/C. Below it, an OEM audio system is located below and works as it should. Standard power options include electric locks, windows, and power-folding mirrors. They all work as they should and the driver also gets a manual tilt-adjustable steering wheel. This model also includes an optional power sunroof, but it's no longer operational. It does, however, allow in some natural light making the cockpit feel more spacious. If you need a bit of additional ventilation the rear window does power retract for a bit more of a breeze. Our favorite power accessory is the rear backup mirror. With the press of a button, it lowers down from its hidden position in the rear spoiler to provide a glimpse of the area behind the rear bumper when reversing. The seats and door cards are trimmed in a soft blue cloth. They lack any major rips, stains, or tears and are comfortable on long journeys. It should also be noted that the front and rear occupants have their own sets of cupholders which were rare for this time in Japan.

The engine and driveline are shared with the Tacoma, and are well designed. This 3400cc mill is fresh off an oil and filter service and turns over quickly thanks to a new 12V battery. It idles confidently and is connected to a selective transfer case. The 4WD system was improved over the old Hilux's by adding a locking center differential. This gives the truck more grip in less than ideal weather scenarios, although we realize you won't be using it while Overlanding, The automatic transmission shifts properly and is geared better for highway use than its manual counterpart. This SSR-G also features Toyotas TEMS adjustable suspension. The truck rides nicely on its longer wheelbase and feels confident when crashing over potholes. The brakes have been resurfaced for a better pedal feel and this heavy hauler stops promptly when necessary. The power steering makes parking stress free and the OEM alloys are all wrapped in new all-terrain rubber.
