This particular truck might be the most desirable Hilux Surf we have imported to date. This 1996 SSR-G boasts a manual transmission, center locking differential, and bulletproof 3.0L turbodiesel. At only 75K verified miles this one-owner rig is capable, safe, and refined. Finished is a dashing Stellar Blue Pearl over Silver two-tone (8L7,) the body is in good shape aside from some minor dings and scuffs associated with normal use. This Japanese Classic is highly collectible for a multitude of reasons; you cant easily find a stickshift, diesel, body-on-frame SUV anymore and Toyota trucks of this era are arguably the best the brand ever built!

The cabin is ergonomic, spacious, and full of functional power accessories for day-to-day life. A few safety upgrades were included in this redesign and the most important of which were dual front SRS airbags. The view of the road ahead is both commanding and clear while the dash lacks any major damage such as cracking or distortion. Atop the windshield is a digital compass and thermometer and the center stack includes a digital climate system and the OEM radio. The A/C blows cold but if you'd prefer more natural ventilation the power windows unfurl quickly. OEM rain guards keep cabin turbulence down and the audio quality isn't half bad for a car of this age. The bluish-gray seats are trimmed in a soft cloth. They are comfortable on long drives and lack any major rips, stains, or tears. The rear seats can flip forward to create a pseudo-sleeping surface and the cargo area is surprisingly spacious. The rear glass even lowers down for the benefit of your canine companion, or simply great ventilation. The door cards and headliner are clean and the power-folding mirrors and electric locks work as they should. This one even has our favorite option, an electric backup mirror that drops down from the rear OEM spoiler so you can see the rear bumper when backing up.

The reason this Surf is so coveted is the gearbox, but here's the brass tax of the driveline. Toyotas gutty 1KZ-TE powers this SUV and is fresh off an oil and filter service. A pair of new 12V batteries have been installed stateside and help this massive four-banger to crank over in the coldest of winter snaps. Which should also last for the next four to five years. The 3.0L idles confidently and is connected to a five-speed manual gearbox. This unit shifts as it should and is connected to a selective transfer case. The high point here is the ability to lock the center differential in less than ideal weather conditions and this rig includes a low range 4WD selection as well. For optimal fuel economy, the driver can select 2WD and the gearing is just fine for interstate use in case the next owner is planning a road trip. The suspension is compliant for daily use and the power steering makes this truck easy to navigate. The brakes feel confident and the five-spoke alloys are all wrapped in new all-terrain Falkens. These new tires should last for years to come and will provide plenty of grip in less than ideal road conditions.
