The old-school has always been cool, but with new trucks trending towards technology and away from function, rigs like this 1996 Hilux Surf only get better with age! Finished in Lavender Steel Metallic (926), this third-generation Surf is a rare bird as-is, but the turbodiesel drivetrain does a lot to cement its desirability among 4x4 enthusiasts. Set off by a unique factory graphics package, OEM rainguards, a rear tire carrier, and refinished OEM wheels, the cosmetics show well aside from some age-related paint defects, chips and scuffs. Even better, the 119k verified and documented miles on the clock are appealing, as stateside enthusiasts know this is a fraction of what typical 4Runners travel. A stylish hauler that can outperform nearly anything in the mud, sand, or snow, there's no telling where this Japanese Classic might go!

The interior is handsome, and durable too, as the moon mist upholstery has held up remarkably well. The material lacks any major rips, stains, or tears and matches the door cards. The third-generation platform was also beefed up with dual SRS airbags, increased side crash support, and ABS for extra peace of mind behind the wheel. Typically prone to distortion, the dash is neat and tidy and it's clear this example was well cared for in a prior life. The center stack is delightfully modern, featuring automatic climate control and a high-end Pioneer headunit with Bluetooth functionality. The adjacent HVAC works well, and is primed for a hot summer with cold A/C and hot heat to boot for the winter. Located by the map light an optional OEM field monitor keeps those within the cabin abreast of the outside conditions. If you like to cruise with the windows down, all four power windows are operable and the rear glass drops down too for easy access. The power locks also work, as do power mirrors. The rear spoiler features a bit of a party trick, as it houses a convex backup mirror to assist in tight parking situations. Full of amenities, the Surf is a utility vehicle at heart, and the 4 way reclining rear bench can also fold flat to open up the cargo hold a bit. The carpets and headliner have held up well and lack any major imperfections. Free of any unwanted stains, UV damage, or unsightly odors, this cabin is a great place to be, and we've even retained the owner's manual and maintenance booklets to preserve the history of this classic truck.

Perhaps the most desirable N185 powerplant we never received in the states, the 1KZ-TE is a great companion under the hood. Ours is also fresh off a sizable recent service, and cranks right over thanks to an optional cold weather package, which includes two 12v batteries and a diesel fuel heater. A few minor oil leaks were attended to, and one of our trained techs replaced the valve cover gasket and half-moon seals. The discerning buyer will be pleased to see we replaced the old timing belt and water pump, and this diesel should tick along just fine for the next 100k kilometers. We replaced the alternator too, for good measure, and installed new serpentine belts to drive your accessories. A new engine air filter and fuel filter were dropped in to aid this 3.0L smooth operation, and with the work performed this Surf excelled on its first highway road test. An automatic gearbox feeds power to a selective transfer case, where we've changed out the output seal and rebuilt the rear axle to ensure you won't lose a drop of fluid. While we are mentioning the transfer case, this one is the upgraded optional unit with a center locker, which is ideal for the off-road enthusiast. We also changed out the front axles for upgraded units, and the suspension was rehabbed thoroughly. New upper and lower control arms in the rear aid handling, and we installed new swaybar links all the way around. Also installed were new inner and outer tie rods. A new 3" lift and new Bilstein shocks help clear the massive 33" rubber. This body-on-frame beast lets nothing get in its path, and it steers effortlessly thanks to a rebuilt steering rack with new bushings to top it off. It stops well too, and the brakes boast new pads and rotors up front, and drums and shoes in the rear. Capping off the laundry list of recon, the OEM alloy wheels were refinished and wrapped in 33" Falken rubber. After a fresh alignment, she drives like a dream and should keep you glued to whatever surface you encounter!
