In a market saturated with fluffed up, underwhelming SUV's, models like this 1995 Land Cruiser Prado are a breath of fresh air. It's not just the Rambo styling that makes these so great, but the durable diesel drivetrain under the bonnet, too. Mated to a five speed stick, ours is the enthusiast's pick, and the 167k miles on the clock are verified and documented to boot. Set off by two tone Dark Emerald Pearl over Flaxen Mica (26Z) paintwork, OEM rainguards, and a slick front brushguard with dual driving lamps, this KZJ78 shows well if you can see past a few light paint imperfections. Rolling on 16" Bridgestone NR595 alloys shod in brand new tires, this is a turn-key cruiser ready to break necks on or off the beaten path. In other words, this is a textbook Japanese Classic SUV!
Clearly cared for in a prior life, there's a lot to love about this interior. Those looking to haul a full squad can deploy optional 3rd row seating from the D-Pillars, and a full slate of power equipment is on hand for anyone looking to daily drive this Prado. Power windows, locks, and side mirrors all work as advertised, and the rear glass can manually pop out to funnel a fresh breeze in. The seats are trimmed in a durable patterned cloth, that's quite comfortable to rest in too. Free from any excessive rips, stains, or tears, the upholstery shows well overall and most of the interior materials are in above average shape, save for a tear atop the vinyl dash cover. and some separation on the middle bench. Positioned centrally, the control center has plenty of creature comforts, including climate control with functioning A/C and a BOSS USDM Bluetooth audio system. If extra cargo space is required in the rear, the middle bench can tumble forward and you can prop the rear row on its side. The headliner is in great shape for being 30 years young and the same can be said for the carpets beneath, which have been protected by some OEM mats. Save for some wear to the touch points and minor, age-related wear throughout, the cabin is more than adequate for an almost 30 year old hauler!
The looks draw you in but the drivetrain is what really makes this body on frame beast! The manual gearbox is the enthusiast's pick, and the 1KZ-TE under the bonnet is a smooth running turbodiesel that's also fresh off a recent service! We started with 2 new 12v batteries that were chucked in to aid ignition. We installed a new valve cover gasket and half moon seals, and topped everything off with a fresh oil and filter service. For a bit of a preemptive tune-up, both the engine air filter and fuel filter were replaced, and this 3.0 is quite zippy around town! The transmission selects gears with ease, and power is sent rearward, with selective 4WD and electronic locking front hubs on hand if needed. A few drivetrain repairs were made, and we changed out both front panhard bar bushings, rear swaybar links, and tightened the front hubs up to keep things safety compliant. Both brake and clutch fluids were drained and refilled, and this Land Cruiser starts and stops with haste. The tires are brand new on all four corners, and we even performed a fresh alignment to ensure you'll track straight for the road ahead. A future classic, trail toy, or sound investment overall, it's hard to beat a good 70 series cruiser!
