Throughout its production cycle, Nissan's S Chassis has managed to uphold its reputation as a premier front engine, rear drive Japanese sports coupe. Touting 50/50 weight distribution and a storied history in drifting and circuit racing, models like this S14 Silvia K's had a heavy impact on car culture. This clean, 13k verified and documented mile 1996 is a cherry example worthy of the Japanese Classic name. Finished in Silver Metallic (KG1), the exterior doesn't leave a whole lot to be desired, and touches like a Navan wing, Navan fog lights, and factory side skirts and rear spats add some subtle OEM+ touches to the impressive original bodywork. With only a few scuffs and chips present from day to day use, it's nice to see this Silvia hasn't been modified heavily, and some period correct 17" Enkei Circular GTA alloys provide the perfect complement to this time capsule interior. Reflexive, fast, and highly collectible it's hard to top this special Silvia.
Following in the footsteps of the exterior, the interior is in equally good nick, and it's evident this one was clearly cared for in a prior life. Compared to the S13 before it, the S14 saw improvements in interior fit and finish. Overall, this cockpit is a comfortable, well-equipped place to be for both driver and passenger. The seats are upholstered in a soft velvety cloth. Aside from some light discoloration throughout, the material seems to have held up well over the years. The dash is trimmed in black vinyl and fortunately has resisted serious cracks, peeling, or other unwanted UV damage aside from a minor nick atop the gauge hood. Safety-conscious drivers will appreciate the inclusion of an SRS airbag in the steering wheel, and a tilt-adjustable steering column is easily set to get some extra comfort behind the wheel. For those looking to drive daily, Sony audio is at the ready to play your favorite tunes throughout the cabin, and cold A/C and hot heat are easily accessible through the factory digital automatic climate control. Power windows, power locks, and power-folding mirrors work at the push of a button, and a power moonroof is available to tilt or slide open on command. The rear seats admittedly don't offer a ton of room for those looking to haul around additional passengers, but they do a swell job at offering up a bit of extra cargo space when folded down. The rest of the interior materials show well, from the headliner to the carpets, and we've even retained the factory multicolor carpeted floor mats to further protect this worthy investment piece.
Under the bonnet, Nissan's SR20DET remains just as peppy, smooth, and easy to modify as it's always been. Like the rest of the vehicle, this one fortunately has withstood the test of time and sits largely unmodified. With a recent service performed by our trained technicians, this one has been sufficiently refreshed and given the green light for the road ahead! A fresh 12v battery cranks this one over at the twist of a key, and a new alternator ensures you won't have any issues holding a charge. As with any 25-year-old vehicle, a replacement of the original serpentine belts was in order, and this SR starts up, idles, and runs like a top, zipping it's way up to highway speeds in a jiffy. The 5-speed manual transmission offers smooth and precise shifts, and power is hammered down to the rear wheels with ease thanks to a fresh service of the factory limited slip differential. NISMO struts on all four corners deliver a more capable handling experience over stock, and to further shore up the drivetrain, we've installed new front caster arms and performed a fresh alignment to get her tracking straight. If hasty stopping power is required, new brake pads and rotors on the front help slow this one to a screeching halt. The power steering is light and easy to maneuver, as one might expect, and we've even mounted new all season rubber on all four corners to deliver plenty of grip for tens of thousands of miles to come!
