Stock#6009The 4Runner is one of the most popular SUVs in the US and has been for the better part of thirty years now. While many stateside versions have racked up the miles, our dealership gets exclusive access to lower-mileage Japanese examples, that come with even more running gear from the factory! This 1996 Light Blue Metallic (8L6) SSR-X is a beautiful rig, boasting the same trustworthy 2.7L gasoline powerplant as its American counterpart, so service and parts availability is easy as pie! Aside from a few light dings, chips, and scuffs the body is in good shape and this recently serviced hauler is blessed with a mere 131k verified and documented miles on the clock. While in Japan, the passenger side fender and quarter were replaced as well as the hatch, but its hard to tell based on the quality of the repair. Set off by a set of OEM rainguards, factory rear tire carrier, OEM bash guard, and a set of stylish refinished 16" alloys, this Surf looks great and drives even better! For those looking for reliable year-round 4WD transportation, or a fun beach truck to vacation in, this terrific Toyota would suit the bill. Boasting a low cost of ownership, and capability and value that is tough to match, this Hilux is a certified Japanese Classic through and through. The cabin features a simple, logical layout, a bevy of electric features, and is in good shape overall. Dual front SRS airbags are standard as is the ABS braking system. The driver benefits from a decent view of the road ahead thanks to the Surf's low beltline and tall ride height. A steering column and lumbar support are both adjustable so that whoever is behind the wheel can find the correct driving position. There is a hint of dash distortion by the upper right corner of the glovebox we wanted to mention, but it was remedied in Japan to not be as noticeable. Occupants inside the cabin benefit from an automatic climate control system that is ready to fire in heat or cold A/C when requested. If more natural ventilation is your preference, the side and rear windows power down and an electric sunroof can be fully retracted. By the sunroof control is an off-road inspired factory Field Monitor that displays the direction of travel, outside temps, and even barometric pressure. The seats are upholstered in a desirable Moon Mist colored cloth. They lack any major rips, stains, or tears and are made of a durable material. The middle row can tumble forward and fold flat to increase cargo capacity and they also split fold. The headliner is in good shape as are the door cards, but we did want to note some light staining on the carpets. Still, at 25 years old the condition is impressive, and even the factory owners manuals and maintenance booklets are included for the new American buyer! The body on frame platform is durable and built to stand the test of time. This rig is powered by the punchy and efficient 3RZ-FE. Fresh off an oil and filter service, the 2.7L cranks to life care of a new 12v battery. To keep the four banger purring like a kitten we replaced the fuel filter and engine air filter with new ones and threw in four brand new spark plugs. To complete the rehab on the drivetrain one of our trained techs fixed oil leaks emanating from the oil pump and the oil filter housing and then replaced the valve cover gasket. The 3RZ is linked to a slick-shifting automatic gearbox and feeds power through a selective transfer case. For the best miles per gallon, rear-wheel drive is the ticket. When snow or sand stands in your way 4WD high and low settings can be engaged. The truck accelerates adequately well for highway merging and sustained use. The ABS brakes do a great job slowing it down, too. The suspension is predictable and offers loads of ground clearance. New front sway bar bushing and end links have been replaced in our shop, too. The steering is light yet on point and this Surf goes right where you point it. Lastly, we wrapped the 16" wheels in new 31-inch TOYO tires. The new rubber not only looks mean but will last for tens of thousands of miles to come and deliver all the grip you'll ever need!*California Residents: In order to register a Grey Market vehicle in the state of California then it will have to be made CARB compliant first.
