Stock #6181In Japan, Toyota's SUVs dominated the marketplace in the 1990s. The Hilux Surf was a strong seller for a bevy of different reasons. It is sizable without being unwieldy, incredibly reliable, efficient, and inexpensive to own. This 1996 also injects a healthy dose of performance coming from its intercooled 1KZ turbodiesel. Finished in a fresh coat of Cavalry Blue (8W2) this KZN185 is set off by an OEM spare tire swingarm, privacy tint, a stylish OEM rear spoiler, and a set of black refinished OEM wheels. Fresh off a recent service, this rig is turn key ready to roll and boasts only 149k verified and documented miles on the ticker. Twenty-five years after this thing rolled off the line, it's still relevant! It looks handsome, and performs fantastic, all of which you'd likely expect from a Japanese Classic! The cabin is spacious, nicely optioned and full of power equipment. The driver benefits from a tilt-adjustable steering wheel and adjustable lumbar support to find a comfortable driving position. The view of the roadway ahead is clear and unobstructed and the tall ride height lets the pilot see above traffic. For reversing, even a power mirror unfurls from the rear spoiler, presenting a view of the rear bumper when parking. The dashboard is in good nick aside from a small inch-long cut in the center, likely from an old dash-mounted navigation unit and some light distortion by the top right of the glovebox. On the positive side it lacks any cracking or fading and houses standard dual front SRS airbags for those who are safety conscious. The Moon Mist cloth upholstery lacks any major rips, stains, or tears and was cared for in a prior life. The rear bench 4-Way reclines and can tumble forward to create a flat loading floor for cargo. The automatic climate control system is able to pipe in cold A/C and hot heat when necessary and is simple to operate. Even the rear occupants have their own dedicated rear heat controls. If you need an additional breeze, a power moonroof and rear glass can be electrically retracted. If daily use is the plan, power folding mirrors, electric windows, and power locks all work like a charm. Feel free to supplement the turbodiesel soundtrack with some tunes from the functional Pioneer touchscreen radio. The door cards, headliner, and carpets have withstood the past twenty-five years without sustaining major abuse and it's clear this Surf was cared for in Japan. Even the owner's manuals and a spare key are included in the purchase. Under the skin, this wonderful rig shares a platform with the lovable US 4Runner. This makes service and modifications as easy as it gets. The heart of this beast is the legendary 1KZ-TE. Fresh off an oil and filter service, the 3.0L churns to life care of two new 12v batteries. To give the diesel a refresh for her first stateside roadtrip, one of our trained techs replaced the serpentine belts, performed a coolant flush, and added in a new fuel filter. The engine feels as strong as an ox and is linked to a stout automatic gearbox. Prodigious torque is available on demand, so blasting from stoplight to stoplight is fun, and highway cruising is comfortable and efficient. 2WD can be utilized to maximize fuel economy and acceleration. For less-than-ideal weather and the occasional beach trip 4WD can also be engaged. When extra traction is required past that, a center locker and low-range 4WD is on standby! The suspension provides loads of ground clearance and was refreshed with new lower control arms. It can handle the rigors of daily use and abuse and takes uneven pavement like a champ with its new rear shocks. The standard ABS brakes feature new pads and rotors up front, and this truck slows down in a jiffy. The power steering is light yet on point and we rebuilt the rack, added a new right front inner and outer tie rod, and replaced the steering rack bushings, too. Lastly, we mounted and balanced four new 31" Falken tires all around. They will last for tens of thousands of miles to come thanks to a fresh alignment, and reduce the road noise greatly. *California Residents: In order to register a Grey Market vehicle in the state of California then it will have to be made CARB compliant first.
