1996 KZJ95 LC Prado
In 1996 Toyota introduced a new model of the Land Cruiser, the 90 series, which was sold alongside the 80 series in Japan. Much like the 70 series Land Cruiser it replaced, the new 90 series was easier to maneuver, featured better fuel economy, and was more refined on asphalt. This 1996 example is finished in Toyota's classic Jewel Green over Gray (K12), and has just 126k documented and verified miles, about half of what a typical Land Cruiser of this age would have stateside. The exterior is in fantastic condition showing only minor imperfections from normal use over the years and includes factory options like the factory front brush guard with aftermarket fog lights, factory rain visors, and a factory tinted sunroof visor. This refined Land Cruiser combines the rugged reliability Toyota is known for, with a composed and comfortable driving experience both on and off-road. You certainly can't go wrong with this certified Japanese Classic!
The interior was also improved for the 90 series, and it was the most luxurious Land Cruiser interior available at the time for purchase. From the classy wood trim panels to the vast array of power equipment, you'll feel right at home inside the cabin. The dash is in good overall condition and does not show any major UV damage, cracks, or distortion. There is however some evidence of a previously mounted navigation screen to the left of the HVAC controls. An automatic climate control functions properly and provides the occupants with hot heat, cold A/C, or anything in between. Aside from some minor discoloration and minor impressions the door panels are in excellent condition and do not have any rips or sagging fabric. The same can be said for the seats, which are done in a matching, stylized upholstery. They are comfy on long trips and lack any major rips, stains, or tears. A field monitor is mounted at the center of the dash and displays both a compass and an inclinometer along with various other functions. The screen does show some UV damage but the gauges do function properly. The carpets and headliner have both held up well and show no major rips, although the carpet does have some light staining to note. On the positive side, the power-folding mirrors, door locks, electric sunroof, and power windows all work like a charm, making daily use enjoyable. Overall, this 90 series is the perfect balance of modern and vintage so you'll have all the comforts without the unnecessary gadgets. It even includes the Japanese owner's manuals, too.
Toyota chose not to reinvent the wheel when they picked a power plant for the 90 series. Instead, they decided to use a tried and true workhorse and make it even better. The 1KZ 3.0L turbo-diesel was outfitted with an intercooler which provides more power and reduces heat. The mill whirrs to life quickly thanks to the new 12v battery our trained technicians installed. A fresh oil and filter service ensures you'll be covered for the next 3k miles, and 5 new Falken Rubitrek tires were mounted and balanced providing both grip and longevity. Power is sent to either two or four wheels depending on driver preference. A selectable transfer case and 4WD ensure you'll be able to tackle whatever weather comes your way. A center locker is also on standby if you get caught out in some real bad weather or happen to want to hit the beach. The automatic transmission is perfect for any occasion including the traffic on your morning commute. Its shifts smoothly and accelerates up to highway speeds better than most other diesels from this era. We also installed new shifter bushings to prevent any play in the gear selector. The ride quality is better than most any truck from this era and the platform is composed and sturdy. It's hard not to fall in the love with this Prado and are confident the next owner will feel the same way!
