When you look at the US Honda market, high mileage hatches are fetching some insane figures. Why not start with an unmolested example like this 1996 EK that is offered with a mere 36k verified and documented miles. Finished in a pretty Cypress Green Pearl (G82-P) the body is in good shape aside from some normal wear and tear. Prior repairs in Japan include a replacement right front fender. The subtle front lip, 15" Bridgestone Eco Forme alloys, and privacy tint really set this little Honda off. It also boasts a well-appointed and clean cabin. The peppy VTEC powered four-seater is fresh off a recent service and boasts a new timing belt service, too. For those looking for a collectible, affordable, and fun Japanese Classic, this timeless Honda would make for an ideal ride!

The cabin is spacious and was cared for in a prior life. Frankly, its overall condition is about as good as any one we have ever seen. It's surprising how much nice equipment is onboard including dual SRS airbags and automatic digital climate control. The heat and A/C work and this hatch is primed for year-round use. The seats are in sublime shape as are the door cards. They lack any major rips, stains, or tears and are upholstered in a soft cloth dotted with fun swathes of blue and red. The dash lacks any cracking and a centrally mounted Carozzerria head unit supplies all the tunes. Electric folding mirrors, power locks, and windows make daily use enjoyable and work like a charm. There are hardly any squeaks or rattles, even at high speeds, and the interior plastics are in above-average shape. Aside from some light carpet staining, it's hard to nitpick the interior. Even the rear cargo security cover is still intact.

Under the bonnet, a zingy D15B four-banger is fresh off an oil and filter service. Thanks to a new 12v battery, this engine starts up promptly with the twist of a key. A new engine air filter will maximize the already decent MPG and help the powerplant to breathe freely. A new thermostat was installed when the timing belt and water pump service were performed and keeps the four-banger operating in the proper temperature range. Horsepower is fed through a CVT gearbox and supplies power to the front wheels. It's quick to accelerate and the dual-stage VTEC engine gets this featherweight up to merging speeds without breaking a sweat. The transmission works as it should and even features selectable driving modes for economy and sport. The suspension is predictable and this little Honda scampers around tight city streets and can handle sustained highway use as well. To complete the full reconditioning we installed four new Falken all-season tires at all four corners. They quiet the ride down nicely and will deliver plenty of grip for tens of thousands of miles to come.
