The Honda CR-V is a lovable, trusty runabout and has a bit of a cult following, too. It's easy to see why, as these crossovers are roomy, efficient, and nicely optioned. Our 1996 is finished in a vibrant Tahitian Green Pearl (BG-28P) and offered with a mere 86k verified and documented miles on the chassis. The exterior is in far above average condition for a Honda this age and the paint is fantastic. While the hood does have some notable scratches, there is no major damage to this fun CR-V. For those who want an affordable Honda that's practical and unique, this CR-V would make for a special, one-of-a-kind Japanese Classic.

The cabin seats five in total and is in good overall condition. The ride height is such that you don't have to hunker down or pull yourself up into the cabin, you just slide right in! The view of the road ahead is clear and commanding and the RD-1 is taller than your average sedan. The dash lacks any cracking or distortion and the optional passenger side SRS airbag is equipped for some added reassurance. Directly below is a sizable glove box for added storage capacity and inside sits the original owner's manuals and some service records. The automatic climate system is intuitive and simple to use, and the A/C blows cold for these last remaining warm days of the year. The factory radio was ditched for an upgraded Kenwood head unit in Japan and it even includes auxiliary inputs for a smartphone. The sound quality isn't half bad and it looks more modern than the original, as well. The driver receives an adjustable steering column and their own airbag. Within reach are the controls for the power windows, locks, and mirrors. These electric options work as advertised other than the power-folding function on the mirrors. The seats are trimmed in a soft, gray cloth. They lack any major rips, stains, or tears and are comfortable on long drives. There are plenty of flexible seating options as well, including a sleeping function for a quick nap! The door cards and headliner look good too, but we did want to note some light staining on the carpets. Rear privacy tint keeps prying eyes off your cargo and the harmful rays of the sun off the interior plastics. If you plan to tailgate, the OEM picnic table can be removed from the rear cargo area and set up within seconds. That's not to say the cabin is perfect as we wanted to note a missing pull on the passenger side rear seat, but at 25 years of age, this thing has obviously been cared for in a prior life.

The reason why Honda is so successful today is thanks to all the hard work during the '80s and '90s. The brand's overwhelming commitment to quality paid dividends at the end of the millennium, and to that point, that's why there are so many of CR-Vs still running around here in the states today. This B20B powered example is fresh off an oil and filter service and starts up promptly thanks to a new 12v battery. The 2.0L idles confidently and is connected to a slick-shifting automatic gearbox. These AWD Hondas are ideal for year-round use, and the tires are brand new to deal with the upcoming winter if you live in a snowy climate. We even replaced the spare tire! The suspension is compliant and predictable, even on rougher road surfaces. A new front left axle and inner and outer tie rods were installed by one of our trained techs to give the driveline a new lease on life. The brakes are confident and the power steering is light and easy to articulate. As a livable, practical vehicle the CR-V is ideal, proving that form and function can be properly executed if you try. The model is still popular today, and traces its DNA back to Japanese Classics like our stellar little green machine! Reliable, efficient, and unique this RD-1 is ready for its next chapter and is turn-key ready to go!
