As the first of many cross-overs from the brand, Honda hit a home run with the original CR-V. The model gave customers the ability to handle some more rugged terrain than their sedans might, while boasting decent fuel economy, more room, and year-round usability. This 1996 Honda CR-V is finished in a Cypress Green Pearl (G-82P) and aside from some minor dings and scuffs, is in good cosmetic shape overall. It's adorned with a stylish OEM brush guard and some subtle privacy tint so you can stand out from the crowd. Offered with a mere 46k verified and documented miles, this recently serviced AWD model is just now getting broken in! It would make for a practical and unique JDM import that's turn-key ready to handle the rigors of daily use.

When entering the vehicle, you can appreciate the overall cabin space compared to other Honda sedans and wagons. The dash lacks any cracks or bubbling which can be common problems for vehicles of this age, and the view of the road ahead is commanding and unobstructed. For extra storage, Honda included dual gloveboxes and a collapsible center tray table located between the driver and passenger. This '96 interior is upholstered in a soft gray cloth, and it has held up well over the years. It lacks any major rips, stains, or tears and the door cards and carpets are still in good shape. The gauges are simple to read and function as they should, and the interior doesn't feel cluttered in the slightest. Power conveniences include electric windows, mirrors, locks, and a keyless entry system. When we tested the power folding mirror option is was inoperable, but can be easily folded manually for tight parking if needed. The A/C is impressive and blows cold as needed during these dog days of summer rear privacy tint reduces cabin temps while protecting the interior plastics against the harmful UV rays of the sun. A touchscreen factory navigation system works as it should and can be used to control the audio system. The speakers sound fine for their age, although we prefer to hear the B20 at wide-open throttle. The cargo area is spacious and can be accessed through a dual-purpose tailgate and even includes the factory picnic table option. For even more originality, the factory owner's manual and navigation booklet are included in the glovebox for the buyer.

The B20B engine was a great choice to balance torque and horsepower in this compact SUV. The best part about this mill is the ease of ownership it provides, with readily available parts and service options since this motor was sold here stateside. Luckily we have performed a fresh oil and filter change which will give you some peace of mind until your next recommended service is due in 5k kilometers. The four-cylinder starts up quickly thanks to a new 12v battery that we have installed here stateside. It should last for years to come and give the CR-V all the cold-cranking amps necessary to get her moving in the dead of winter. To keep the engine temps in check we have also replaced the radiator with a new one. The 5-speed automatic transmission shifts seamlessly and doesn't hesitate or buck when going through the gears. Power is sent out to all four corners and the OEM alloys are all wrapped in new tires. Ground clearance is exceptional and offers the ride height of an SUV height with the better on-road feel of a car chassis. The brakes are responsive and happy to do their job when requested. The OEM suspension is sound and can handle the rigors of daily abuse. This little soft-roader is a top contender if you are looking for a reliable and spacious SUV that's easy on gas and pleasant to own.
