The 80 Series Toyota's are perhaps the largest and most luxurious of our truck-based imports. Its size allows for the family to ride in comfort, within the confines of a spacious, quiet, and well-appointed cabin. Beauty is more than skin deep, and the rugged 4x4 underpinnings of this diesel model make it nearly unstoppable, which is intrinsic to the Land Cruisers DNA. This turbo diesel powered 1995 VX Limited is finished in a classic Dark Green Pearl (6M1) and offered with a mere 138k documented and verified miles. Adorned with a set of OEM rainguards and some aggressive rubber, the body is in good shape aside from some minor dings, chips and scuffs associated with normal use. Legally imported and recently serviced, this big bad bruiser would be just as good traversing some backwoods trails as it would be shuttling the kids to school. However you choose to use it, this turn-key rig is a certified Japanese Classic.

We really like the interior update these Land Cruiser's received midway through production. The lines are more sculpted and the inside feels more modern. The dash design changes a bit and this one lacks any cracks or UV-related distortion. Toyota even thought to add a cupholder for convenience. The driver also receives a tilt-adjustable steering column and power lumbar support to make daily use more manageable. Power windows, locks, and mirrors are standard and work as they should, with the exception of the power-folding function. Cold a/c and a simple to use auto climate control system will keep the cabin temperatures manageable for the remaining summer months. If you prefer natural ventilation a large power sunroof can retract at a moment's notice. It also lets in a bunch of natural light making the cabin feel much larger. The seats are upholstered in a soft blue and gray Alcantara. They are soft to the touch, supportive, and lack any major rips, stains, or tears. The carpets and headliner are in average shape and the door cards have resisted any major damage over the years. At twenty-five years old the cockpit is in better shape than most stateside examples of the truck, but it's also not perfect. We wanted to note that while the AddZest radio functions the speaker quality is poor, so that's something an audiophile may want to budget for. Still, it's obvious the car was cared for in a prior life, and even the factory owner's manual is still in the glove box for the next owner.

The drivetrain is pure gold as the saying goes and this Cruiser is powered by the 1HD-FT. This lightly revised 4.2L turbodiesel is fresh off an oil and filter service and runs really well. Two new 12v batteries aid startup and the straight-six idles confidently without very much vibration at all. The engine sounds good and makes decent power while returning above-average fuel economy. This HDJ-81 is equipped with a full-time 4WD system that includes a low gear set. If the going gets tough a center locking differential splits power equally front and rear and offers a bit more off-road capability. The TEMS factory suspension is able to cope with the rigors of daily use and can handle large road imperfections without breaking a sweat. The ride on these lack the squeaks and rattles of more downmarket SUVs, which makes it much more livable while Overlanding. Like modern cars, it gobbles up highway miles happily and even has a working cruise control system. The brakes are able to slow this massive rig down adequately and the five-spoke alloys are all wrapped in new all-terrain rubber. These new tires add tons of premium year-round grip and should last for tens of thousands of miles to come. We even replaced the spare tire to boot!
