Stock #5983If you're a Toyota enthusiast, off-road diehard, or a fan of cool Japanese Classic trucks in general, chances are you've dreamed of a narrow body 3rd generation Surf with a turbodiesel engine and a slick shifting manual transmission. Better yet, the 61k miles on the clock are verified and documented, and the Lavender Steel Metallic (926) paint is as rare as hen's teeth. Accented by chrome bumpers and 17" BERG alloys wrapped in fresh Falken all terrains, this N185 checks nearly all the boxes and is a perfect blank slate for a no holds barred overland build, or a prime candidate to be tucked away as a garage queen. Fresh off a recent service and given our stamp of approval, we're proud to offer this 1996 Hilux Surf SSR to a lucky American!
The interior of this SUV is more sparsely optioned than most but still sports all the features and quality materials needed to make a formidable daily driver. Simple but durably designed, the cloth upholstery on the seats has withstood the better part of three decades and avoided any serious use and abuse, and the headliner and carpet shows well to boot. Keeping it simple in terms of power amenities, all power windows and locks are operable, and the mirrors adjust manually. Additionally, the rear glass can unfurl electronically to increase airflow throughout the cabin. The HVAC is fully functional, and cold A/C and hot heat are rapidly accessible for whatever climate you choose to pilot this Surf in. Sadly, the Kenwood audio beneath has given up the ghost to make way for a more modern replacement. Despite the relatively barebones nature of this N185, dual SRS airbags and ABS were still offered as standard equipment, which should give your passengers some much needed peace of mind. The rear bench looks seldom used, along with the upholstery in the cargo area, and the original carpeted floor mats are even in great nick and work to preserve this time capsule of a cockpit!Under the hood, the 1KZ-TE stands tall and frankly it may be the best available powerplant for this chassis! Packing a durable 3 liters of turbodiesel performance, these stout four-bangers are great for on and off road excursions and ours is fresh off a recent service and a comprehensive once-over by our trained technicians as well. She cranks over swiftly, care of a new 12v battery and chugs along nicely at idle after a fresh oil and filter service. We changed all serpentine belts to ensure your accessories are driven reliably, and we preemptively replaced the engine air filter and fuel filter to give this rig a bit of a tune up before hitting the road. With the maintenance performed, this one is a treat to drive and the 5 speed manual gearbox allows you to make the most of the diesel's broad torque curve. Power is delivered via a selective transfercase, with 4WD and low gearing on hand if you choose to traverse this one off the beaten path. The suspension feels composed over road imperfections of all shapes and sizes, and we installed a new brake master cylinder and fresh brake pads up front to ensure you'll always stop on a dime. To bring it all home, we wrapped the multipiece alloys in fresh Falken rubber. Not only do they pay off on camping trips or beach excursions, they'll deliver plenty of comfortable on-road grip for tens of thousands of miles to come!*California Residents: In order to register a Grey Market vehicle in the state of California then it will have to be made CARB compliant first.
