Toyota's second generation Hilux Surf has pretty much cemented its spot in the midsize SUV hall of fame. An unstoppable body on frame beast, this 1995 N130 is backed by a trusty turbodiesel drivetrain, terrain-crushing 4WD, and enough power amenities to make daily use and abuse a walk in the park. Finished in a one-off Blue Haze, and offset by a factory spare tire swingarm and stylish Raguna ZZYZX alloys, the exterior looks the part, save for some minor imperfections in the paintwork. With only 144k verified/documented miles it's easy to see that this one was clearly cared for in a prior life as well and the driveline is barely broken in. A tough and tumble rig that's hard to keep down, the N130 Surf is a definitive Japanese Classic SUV and is turn key ready to rock!

The interior is well designed with a simple ergonomic layout and materials built to stand the test of time. Perhaps this cabin's most appealing factor is its lack of UV distortion or hairline cracks on the dash, an issue that commonly plagues models of this generation. Additionally, the interior upholstery shows well apart from some expected tears on the driver's seat bolster. The herringbone headliner is in great shape as is the plush carpeting underneath. Positioned conveniently in the center stack, Toyota's easy to use manual climate control unit pumps out cold A/C or hot heat at the flip of a switch and an adjacent OEM audio system is fully functional albeit non-compliant with US FM frequencies. Additionally aiding driver and passenger comfort, all four power windows are fully operable, and the power mirrors and locks work too! For those who keep their furry friends in tow, the rear glass can also power down so any slobber can fly rearward. The rear bench reclines slightly for added comfort, and the seats can be folded forward if you need to move some furniture or take a run to the local feed and seed. Overall, it's safe to say this Surf has one of the more versatile cabins we have to offer, and it can also hold its own as a daily transporter if need be. For originality's sake, we've even retained the factory owner's manual and maintenance booklet to further document and protect your precious JDM investment!

Under the hood, it's hard to find a powerplant we've had more success with than Toyota's 1KZ-TE. A fiercely reliable 3.0 turbodiesel, these motors are remarkable on fuel economy, power, and are relatively simple to service as well. Ours has been given a thorough once-over by our trained technicians, starting with 2 new 12v batteries installed to properly aid ignition. From there we performed a basic tune up care of a fresh engine air filter and diesel fuel filter, and a new valve cover gasket was installed up top to ensure you won't lose a drop from the oil and filter service performed. With the maintenance performed, the 1KZ runs right as rain and excels in pretty much any scenario from quick jaunts around town to longer highway hauls. The automatic transmission throws power smoothly to a selective transfercase, and 4WD low is easily selectable if you find your way to a sandy beach or mud bog. To shore up the drivetrain a hair, a new outer CV boot was installed on the front right axle. The suspension is surprisingly soft and comfortable over harsher terrain, and the brakes are well equipped to stop this rig on a dime if need be. We wrapped the slick multipiece alloys in fresh Falken rubber too. The new Wildpeaks not only look great, but they handle well in most every road condition after a fresh in-house alignment!
