The 4Runner is one of the most popular SUVs in the US and has been for the better part of thirty years now. While many stateside versions have racked up the miles, our dealership gets exclusive access to lower-mileage Japanese examples, that come with even more running gear! This 1996 Stellar Blue Pearl (8L7) SSR-X is a beautiful rig, boasting the same trustworthy 2.7L gasoline powerplant as its American counterpart, so service and parts availability is as good as it gets. Aside from a few light dings, chips, and scuffs the body is in good shape and this recently serviced hauler is blessed with a mere 119k verified and documented miles on the clock. Set off by a set of 17" refinished alloy wheels and some subtle privacy tint, this stick-shift Surf looks great and drivers even better! For those looking for fun reliable year-round 4WD transportation or a fun beach truck to vacation in, this terrific Toyota would suit the bill. Boasting a low cost of ownership, and capability and value that is tough to match, this manual Hilux is a certified Japanese Classic through and through.

The cabin features a simple, logical layout, a bevy of electric features, and is in good shape overall. Dual front SRS airbags are standard as is the ABS braking system. The driver benefits from a decent view of the road ahead thanks to the low beltline and tall ride height of the Surf. The dash lacks any cracking or fading and OEM audio is mounted centrally and works like a charm. The same can be said for the auto climate control above, which can mix A/C and heat to the cabin occupants' liking. The driver can utilize an adjustable steering column and adjustable lumbar support to find the ideal driving position and the controls for the power windows, rear glass, door locks, and side mirrors are all close by. All work properly and make daily driving much more enjoyable. The Moon Mist upholstery lacks any major rips, stains or tears as so do the matching door cards, which are in good nick. Unlike the 4Runner, the rear bench can 4-way recline and also can fold flat to maximize the cargo area. The headliner is in good nick, and aside from some light carpet staining it's really hard to complain about the interior. Even the OEM carpeted mats, owner manuals, and maintenance booklets are on hand for the Stateside owner to enjoy.

The body on frame platform is durable and built to stand the test of time. This rig is powered by the punchy and efficient 3RZ-FE. Fresh off an oil and filter service, the 2.7L cranks to life care of a new 12v battery. To keep the four banger purring like a kitten we replaced the fuel filter and engine air filter with new ones. To complete the rehab on the drivetrain one of our trained techs fix oil leaks emanating from the oil pump and the oil filter housing. The 3RZ is linked to a true five-speed manual gearbox and feeds power through a selective transfer case. For the best miles per gallon and acceleration, rear-wheel drive is the ticket. When snow or sand stands in your way 4WD high and low range settings can be engaged. The truck accelerates adequately well for highway merging and sustained use. It's also way more controllable thanks to the gearbox, and running through the brush is a riot in this SUV. The ABS brakes do a great job slowing it down too, and the suspension is predictable and offers loads of ground clearance. The steering is light yet on point and this Surf goes right where you point it. Lastly, we wrapped the 17" wheels in new 31-inch Falken tires. The new rubber not only looks mean but will last for tens of thousands of miles to come and provide all the year-round grip you'll ever need.
