Exterior Overview
We are fans of Toyota’s turbodiesel powerplants, and this 1996 Surf happens to be an athletic truck that is loads lighter than current SUVs. That means great driving dynamics, great acceleration, and this SSR-X is also frugal on fuel. Finished in a lovely Desert Dune (1A5), this 4×4 is set off by a 2″ lift, an OEM spare tire swingarm, optional front bumper valance, OEM spoiler, OEM rainguards, and 16″ aftermarket alloys. Aside from a few light dings, chips, and scuffs, the body is in good shape, and this terrific Toyota is fresh off a recent service. Boasting only 131k verified and documented miles on the ticker, this baby is barely broken in. World-class capability and a trusty driveline make this ideal for families on the go and adventurous types. Bombing down the beach, ripping up some trails, and trundling down the interstate are as easy as pie in this Japanese Classic!
Interior Overview
The cabin is simple and ergonomic. The dashboard lacks any cracking or fading, and dual SRS airbags are standard. A modern-looking Pioneer radio pipes in the tunes, and above is a simple-to-use auto climate control system. The a/c is cold, making this summer bearable, and the heat is on hand for the winter months. Power windows, locks, and mirrors all work in typical Toyota fashion, making daily use more enjoyable. Even the rear hatch glass rolls down for added ventilation. The moon mist upholstery is in above-average condition and lacks any major rips, stains, or tears. The driver benefits from adjustable lumbar support, and rear occupants can find the ideal seating position with 4-way reclining seatbacks. The rear seats also split fold, tumble forward, and fold flat to allow for additional cargo. The material is mirrored in the door cards, which are in equally good nick. The headliner has resisted wear and tear over the years, and aside from some light carpet stains and an inoperable tachometer, the interior has held together remarkably well. Even the owner’s manual and a spare key are included with the purchase.
