Interior Overview
The cabin is expansive, upscale, and filled with electric amenities. The dashboard lacks any cracking or distortion, and dual SRS airbags are standard equipment. The driver and passenger both benefit from heated and power-adjustable front seats. The center stack is close by and easy to reach, too. An OEM touchscreen controls the automatic climate control system and audio inputs. Both systems work like a charm and make daily use more enjoyable. If the functional heat and cold A/C isn’t your thing, you can dial in some natural ventilation. The power windows unfurl, the large panoramic moonroof retracts, and even the rear quarter glass is electric and can butterfly outward. The seats are upholstered in rare for Japan tan leather. Aside from the typical age-induced cracking, they lack other major imperfections. The power folding mirrors, electric locks, and cruise control all work in typical Toyota fashion. The door cards and headliner are in good shape, and aside from a non-functioning electric adjustable steering column, wear on the steering wheel, and some light carpet stains, it is hard to critique the cabin. On the positive side, the original OEM mats are still in decent shape and the owner’s manual and maintenance booklets are included for the new owner.
Mechanical Overview
Propulsion comes from one of Toyota’s best designed engines of all time. The 2UZ-FE is known for being nearly bulletproof, and ours is fresh off an oil and filter service. A new 12V battery allows for instant ignition, and the 4.7L is a low vibration and quiet mill. A new set of spark plugs properly atomizes the fuel, and we also replaced the accessory belt, as it was worn. One of our trained techs replaced the oil pressure sensor so that the gauge reads correctly, adding some peace of mind for whoever is behind the wheel. The 2UZ is mated to a smooth shifting automatic transmission. Torque is fed through a full time 4WD system, with a center locking differential and low range available should loose surfaces present themselves. It makes good midrange power, and this heavyweight sails up to highway merging speeds without breaking a sweat. It slows down with confidence, too, courtesy of standard ABS and large disc brakes. The active height control suspension rides nicely and feels predictable. We upgraded the system with new front lower ball joints and rear upper control arms. It can handle the rigors of daily use and abuse, and the long wheelbase aids high speed stability. Power steering is standard, and is light and easy to articulate. The wheels are wrapped in brand-new Falken all-terrain rubber. The new tires look mean, quell road noise, and should last for tens of thousands of miles to come.
*California Residents: In order to register a Grey Market vehicle in the state of California then it will have to be made CARB compliant first. CARB certifications will have to be performed within the state. Depending on the vehicle and any existing modifications will affect the pricing. Typically CARB compliance will range between 5-10K.
