When Honda designed its first crossover, they really hit the mark. The CR-V was a sales success and targeted clients who wanted some all-weather capability to match its reliable and efficient portfolio of vehicles. This 1996 example is finished in a stately Cypress Green (G82-P) and accessorized with a subtle set of tinted rainguards, some privacy tint, and a polished OEM front bumper bar. The body in is good shape aside from the normal dings, chips, and scuffs associated with normal use. Offered with a paltry 97k verified and documented miles, this JDM example is in better shape than stateside RD1's, which have generally logged many more miles. Recently serviced and legally imported this fun, all-wheel-drive runabout would make for a stress-free daily driver or a neat weekend toy. Practical, lovable, and well equipped, this CR-V is a certified Japanese Classic and one you won't want to miss out on!

The cabin is super spacious despite the meager exterior dimensions. Honda didn't just build good drivetrains, they knew how to design an interior. The ergonomics are top-notch and the view of the road ahead is clear and unobstructed. The dash is in good shape and lacks any cracking or distortion. A centrally located Gathers OEM audio system is operational and sounds quite good for a car of this age. The climate control unit is simple to use and includes functional heat and A/C. The driver benefits from an adjustable steering column, electric windows, locks, and mirrors. These all work, save for the power-folding feature on the side mirrors and make daily use more enjoyable. This little crossover even has keyless entry, which we see infrequently on a lot on our imports! The seats are trimmed in a soft gray cloth, and they are comfy on long hauls. The upholstery lacks any major blemishes such as rips, holes, or tears and was obviously cared for overseas. The door cards, headliner, and carpet have withstood the past 25 years of use without major damage, too. The cargo area is easy to access and the glass can be opened separately from the tailgate. Our favorite cabin amenity has to be the OEM picnic table. Used as a false floor in the boot, it can be removed and set up for a spontaneous tailgate party.

The driveline is an example of the engineering that harkens back to Honda's golden era. In the mid-1990's the brand made some incredible engines, and the B20B is no exception. While the CR-V isn't the fastest, it gets decent fuel economy and is nearly bulletproof. Fresh off an oil and filter service, the four-banger fires up promptly thanks to a new 12v battery. The engine idles with confidence and breaths freely thanks to a new engine air filter and boasts a set of new serpentine belts. The driver's side torque mount and a new rear motor mount keep vibrations to a minimum, which is ideal if you plan to log a bunch of miles in this thing. The 2.0L runs like a top thanks to a slate of other maintenance and repairs performed by one of our trained techs. A new valve cover gasket keeps the B20 topped up on lubricant and a new thermostat was installed, too. Power is sent to all four wheels through an automatic gearbox. It shifts confidently and the peppy little crossover has no issues getting up to safe highway merging speeds. The suspension is predictable and the platform offers much better ground clearance than Honda's sedans and wagons. New front sway bar links have been fitted and the chassis is composed over rough pavement. The brakes are capable too and the power steering is light and easy to articulate. We replaced the front left caliper and performed a brake fluid flush, too. The alloys are all wrapped in new Falken all-season rubber. The new tires quiet down the ride nicely and will last for tens of thousands of miles to come. We even replaced the spare tire, as well!
