Stock #6286Practicality and performance hardly go hand in hand, especially when talking about an SUV. This 1996 Surf is both, and is also efficient and inexpensive to own and operate. Redone in a flashy fresh coat of Dark Blue Pearl (TH1), this SSR-X model is set off by a factory spare tire swingarm and OEM black refinished alloys. We wanted to note the driver's door was replaced at some point in Japan, but this rig is no worse for the wear, and this 4x4 is fresh off a recent service. Powered by a tremendous turbodiesel, this KZN185 is offered with a mere 121k verified and documented miles on the clock. Capable, spacious, and collectible, this Japanese Classic is an all around decent performer and our best-selling model for good reason. Overall the cabin is in good shape and this truck was cared for in Japan. The dashboard lacks any cracking and distortion and includes a JDM navigation system. Located by the map lights is a trick OEM field monitor that includes information about the exterior conditions, which is useful when you lose cell service. The driver benefits from a tilt adjustable steering column and adjustable lumbar support to find the ideal driving position. A Panasonic radio upgrade is located at the bottom of the center stack and the automatic climate control is positioned above. A/C and heat can be mixed easily, and the buttons are large and easy to grasp and depress. If you prefer natural ventilation, the side windows and rear glass can power down, and a large sunroof unfurls too. The Moon Mist gray cloth seats are in good nick and lack any major rips, stains, or tears. The rear row can four-way recline and tumble forward to maximize cargo volume. The power locks and mirrors work in typical Toyota fashion making daily use more enjoyable. The headliners and door cards have held up well over the past 25 years, as well. The owner's manuals are included with the purchase of this Surf, and aside from some light carpet stains, its really hard to complain about the cabin. The convenient thing about owning a Surf is that it has a US sibling, the 4Runner. This makes parts easy to find and they are inexpensive, too. The 1KZ-TE diesel is one hell of a mill, and this one is fresh off an oil and filter service. Its feels healthy as a horse thanks to a new engine air filter and new fuel filter, and it pulls strong to redline. A common Hilux issue is that the valve cover likes to leak, so we took care of a new one so that all the oil stays internal to the engine. The 3.0L is connected to a stout automatic that shifts like a champ. It makes good use of the low-end grunt of the 1K and is linked to a selective transfer case. 2WD yields the best performance and fuel economy, but a low range and center locker are on hand if you need to transverse some tough trails. The suspension is connected and predictable. We have improved it by adding new rear shocks and new front lower ball joints. Also replaced were the rear upper and lower control arms. We aligned the Surf to make sure the brand new 31" Falken all-terrain tires last, and this Toyota drives as straight as an arrow. ABS brakes do a wonderful job of slowing down this midsize Ute and the power steering benefits from new inner and outer tie rods and brand new steering rack bushings. Perfect on pavement and determined on dirt, this super Surf is the real deal!*California Residents: In order to register a Grey Market vehicle in the state of California then it will have to be made CARB compliant first.
