The 80 Series Land Cruiser is for those who value capability, reliability, and practicality. About the only thing missing from our American models is a healthy helping of performance, and this turbodiesel HDJ81 over-delivers on that front! This 1995 is finished in a stately Dark Emerald Pearl over Gray Metallic two-tone (2AC), and is set off by OEM front rainguards, privacy tint, refinished factory alloy wheels, and an OEM spare tire swingarm. Aside from a few light dings, chips, and scuffs the body is in good shape and this VX Limited is fresh off a recent service. Touting a mere 88k verified and documented miles, this rig is barely broken in, and would make for a wonderful daily driver, hardcore weekend off-road toy, or useful family hauler. A timeless design with space and features aplenty, it's hard to deny this Japanese Classics greatness!

The cabin is spacious and covered in power amenities. The revised dashboard is better ergonomically than the previous models, and this one lacks any cracking or distortion. A handful of upgrades were also performed in Japan including a luxurious wood and leather MoMo steering wheel and functional Pioneer audio system. Another rare item is the factory leather interior. Aside from the typical age-related wear, the cowhides lack any major rips, stains, or tears and are in good shape. The driver's seat is also powered, and drivers of all sizes can manipulate the tilt-adjustable steering column to find the ideal driving position. Power windows, locks, and mirrors make daily use enjoyable and work like a charm. A fully automatic climate control unit can be dialed in for cold A/C and piping hot heat at a moment's notice. If natural ventilation is your thing, the power sunroof tilts and power retracts fully. The middle bench can tumble forward to maximize cargo capacity and head, shoulder, and legroom are as sizable as anything we see out of Japan. The headliner, door cards, and carpets have withstood the past 25 years without major abuse. That is not to say that everything is perfect as we wanted to note the power slide feature of the passenger seat no longer works and the power folding side mirror function is inoperable. Still at 25 years old the condition is impressive and we feel the next owner will love the condition of this truck.

Enthusiasts know which diesel engine to look for and it's this 1HD-FT that's under the bonnet. New for 1995, it added two extra valves per cylinder and a smidge of extra power. Fresh off an oil and filter service, the 4.2L churns to life care of two new 12v batteries. Like all of our diesels, a new fuel filter was installed and we also replaced the serpentine belts to keep the electronics properly powered and under hood squeaks to a minimum. The straight six is linked to a stout automatic gearbox and sends power to the wheels through a Full-Time 4WD system. The low-end power makes for decent acceleration and sustained highway driving is comfortable. For the occasional summer beach excursion or a rocky mountain trail, a low-range 4WD setting and locking center differential can be engaged. The suspension offers loads of ground clearance and is soft riding over large potholes and smaller road imperfections alike. The power steering is light and easy to articulate and the brakes have no problem slowing down this rig with confidence. The OEM 16"s are wrapped in brand-new Yokohama Geolander rubber. The new tires reduce the road noise and most importantly will last for tens of thousands of miles to come.
