The second-generation Hilux Surf has a tough, business-like disposition. Powered by a stubborn and bruty 3.0L turbodiesel, it performs well both on and off-road. This 1995 is finished in a classic Evergreen Pearl over Silver two-tone (29X), the body is in good nick aside from the normal dings and scuffs associated with routine use. Boasting a mere 134K verified miles, this five-seat 4x4 is versatile, reliable, and fun to drive. Recently serviced and legally imported the highly collectible truck will only go up in value and showcases some of Toyotas' best engineering to date.

The cabin is in good shape overall and has a few surprising amenities for a truck of this age. Take the standard set of dual front cupholders that we see in all modern cars; it just wasn't as common back then, but Toyota made sure to tuck them in there. Other power options include windows, locks, mirrors, and retractable back glass. All these options work and this Hilux also features automatic climate control. The only cabin upgrades come in the form of a modern Carrozzaria head unit which replaces the OEM one. It's powered properly but there aren't any speakers in the doors so you'll probably want to overhaul the whole system. The seats are trimmed in a durable gray and blue cloth. The driver's seat has some seat bottom damage but otherwise, they lack any major imperfections such as rips, stains, or tears. The headliner is clean and the door cards and carpet lack any major wear. The view of the road ahead is clear and the tall ride height gives a good command of the road. The dash is in good shape but does have a hairline crack on the driver's side we wanted to note. Nighttime and wet weather visibility come from a set of amber pencil lights mounted on the OEM brush guard. Still, at 26 years old the condition will impress most!

The driveline is gold, as they say, and this example is powered by a brutish 3.0L turbodiesel. The 1KZ-TE under the hood is fresh off an oil and filter service. Thanks to two new 12V batteries the massive four-banger cranks to life promptly. It's connected to an automatic gearbox and selective transfer case. The driveline feels good and the vehicle shifts smoothly when accelerating up to highway speeds. The auto gearbox is also much better geared for highway use if you happen to have a road trip planned. We have performed a hub service to shore up the driveline and the long-wheelbase makes this truck stable at higher speeds. The power steering is direct and light and we have installed a new steering damper to ensure the truck goes where you point it without giving you a fight. The brakes are confident and the tires are brand new Falkens mounted at all four corners. These look great and will last for years to come while providing year-round grip.
