Toyota J78 Prado is a timeless offroader. It straddles the line between vintage and modern and can be daily driven and enjoyed year-round. This 1995 is finished in a one-off Absolute Black and is set off by OEM rainguards, WEDS Keeler alloys, LED tail lights and some subtle rear privacy tint. The paint is in fine shape aside from some light scuffs, scratches, chips, and dings associated with normal use. Fresh off a recent service, this capable turbo diesel Cruiser is offered with a mere 142k verified and documented miles. Best of all, the spacious, seven-seat cabin is well equipped and packs a few expensive upgrades. This reliable, retro-styled Prado is a unique and classic take on a real-deal sports utility vehicle. Turn key and ready to roll, this collectible Toyota won't last long, and is a certified Japanese Classic.

The cabin is simple in its design and roomy, too. Upon entry, the fitted leather seat covers steal the show. They are installed from the two front seats to the optional rear row and add a whole bunch of class! The door cards pop with the blue textured cloth patterns that have become so desirable nowadays. The view of the road ahead is clear and commanding as this ute rides far above traffic. This one does note the typical dash cracks that afflict these things, but a fitted carpeted cover would be an easy solution. The Land Cruiser boasts power windows, locks, and side mirrors, which make daily use more pleasant, and it even blows cold A/C for these last remaining dog days of summer. If you prefer more natural ventilation, a power sunroof sits atop the roof and works like a charm. Even the rear windows pop out for more of a breeze. The factory audio was ditched for a more modern Kenwood touchscreen unit. The audio quality is quite good, but we prefer the spool of the turbo and trademark diesel clatter emitting from the engine compartment.

The body on frame platform is simple and sturdy. It is one of the main reasons so many of these things have lasted compared to unibody designs, which cant hold up to the rigors of daily use and abuse as well. The powerplant is legendary and known for its potency and durability. This rig is powered by the 1KZ-TE engine. The four-banger is fresh off an oil and filter service and starts up promptly thanks to two new 12v batteries we installed here in our shop. We also installed a new valve cover gasket while we were servicing this SX to keep the 3.0L topped up on oil. Torque is fed through a smooth shifting automatic transmission and then through a selective transfercase. If the weather doesnt want to comply, the driver can lock the hubs electronically from the cabin, bear down, and even select a low range if need be. While most will be driving over tarmac, its good to know that this truck gobbles up potholes like a champ and the long wheelbase makes for a more stable ride at interstate speeds. The brakes are confident and the steering is light and power-assisted. New all-terrain rubber was mounted and balanced at all four corners. The new rubber looks mean but more importantly will last for tens of thousands of miles to come.
