The N130 Hilux Surf models are capable, midsized rigs built to last. This 1995 Prussian Red Pearl (25T) example features a torquey 3.0L turbodiesel and four-wheel-drive. Rocking a rear spoiler, oversized Falken tires, and a rear spoiler, the body is in good shape other than some minor dings and chips associated with normal use. Boasting a mere 100K verified miles, this recently serviced and legally imported Japanese Classic is just getting broken in.

The cabin is simple, roomy, and logically laid out. Visibility is impressive in this model thanks to the large windscreen and tall ride heigh. The dash is in good nick and lacks any major imperfection such as cracks or distortion. A wood gain Momo Indy steering wheel sits atop an adjustable column and adds plenty of flair. Toyota included a few power features such as electric windows, locks, and side mirrors. They all work as they should and this SSR-X even has a functional power tilting and a retractable sunroof. The gray cloth seats are in good shape other than a bolster tear on the driver's side. They are comfortable on long cruises and are made of durable material. The headliner, door cards, and carpets are all clean and lack major damage.

Mechanically sturdy and among the most durable drivetrains Toyota has ever produced. That sounds like a grandiose statement but this model's track record speaks for itself. The heart of the beast is the powerful 1KZ-TE. The massive four-banger benefits from a fresh oil and filter service and starts up promptly thanks to a new 12V battery. It idles as smooth as any big four-pot can, and sends power through an automatic gearbox to two four wheels depending on driver preference. The gearbox shifts properly and acceleration is brisk compared to the gasoline version. A new engine air filter ensures maximum fuel efficiency is delivered as well. The TEMS adjustable suspension was cutting edge at the time and includes driver selective hard and soft settings. The ride is decent for a truck and the body on the frame platform can handle the rigors of daily driving. The brakes feel confident and the power steering is light and easy to articulate. The factory alloys are all wrapped in new Falken all-terrain tires. They look great and will deliver a premium year-round grip on asphalt and loose surfaces.
