The original iteration of the Celcior/ LS400 is one of the most well-designed luxury sedans ever built. Known for its near bulletproof reliability, abundant power options, and refinement, the UCF10 established Lexus as a luxury marque that could challenge the Germans. Over ninety percent of the Toyota Celsior was redesigned for its second generation, the UCF20. The body panels were resculpted, the interior was upgraded, giving it more usable space than before. Improving the horsepower on the 1UZ, as well as removing some weight from the platform, made for a sharper driving sedan with an increase in performance and fuel economy. Finished in an upscale and highly desirable Black Jade Metallic (6N9), the body is in good shape other than some light scratches, scuffs, and dings associated with normal use. Being an A-Package car means that this one has your traditional coil and spring setup which is far easier to maintain and if you want to take the VIP look makes swapping over to coilovers even easier. Offered with a mere 51K verified miles, this clean luxury saloon is renowned for unprecedented quality, a buttery smooth ride, and its low cost of ownership.

Enter the cockpit and you are surrounded by plenty of soft-touch surfaces and premium materials. Gray executive cloth was chosen for this example and the front and rear seats are both in great shape. Lacking any major rips, stains, or tears, the material is still soft and they are very comfortable on long cruises. Your shoulder, leg, and headroom are expansive regardless of where you are seated. The front occupants benefit from a slate of power accessories including digital climate control, power seats, and even dual-zone airbags which were still a factory option for most cars at this point. Power folding mirrors, power locks, and one-touch windows work as they should and are standard equipment. An adjustable tilting and telescoping column are great for drivers of all sizes. The dash is in good shape and lacks any holes or distortion from the sun beating down over the years. The headliner and door cards are clean and properly upholstered and the carpets have been well cared for over the years. The gauges are crisp and offer great visibility both during the day and at night. The only spot to note is the radio control is largely all washed out so you have to adjust the stations based on the scan feature. Though the Japanese radio frequency is different than what we use here so it doesn't have a ton of functionality in the first place. The dual-zone climate control on the other hand is still in great shape and works just as it should. Even when you pop open the glove box you'll find the original owner's manual for good measure.

The driveline utilized on second-generation Celciors is tried and true. The 1UZ-FE was improved, making more power and achieving greater efficiency. This improves overall performance and efficiency without sacrificing reliability. Benefitting from a fresh oil and filter service, she turns over with a twist of the key thanks to a new 12V battery. Near silent in operation, the 4.0L V8 churns to life and sounds great. Sending power to the rear wheels through a slick-shifting auto, the Celsior gets up to highway speeds seamlessly. The transmission shifts properly and makes your morning commute a breeze. The stock suspension and brakes do a killer job of keeping you in control, and 4 new tires make sure grip is never an issue. With its power-assisted steering, you'd never know just how heavy these guys are based on the way they drive. As a daily driver, VIP platform, or weekend cruiser the Celsior is a top-notch choice. The build quality, luxury appointments, and upscale styling can't be beaten for the price. For true enthusiasts, this Celsior represents the pinnacle of luxury. Offering all the comfort you'll ever need in a daily driver it's no wonder this Celsior is a certified Japanese Classic.
