Interior Overview
The cabin is impressive to anyone used to American vans. Spacious, thoughtful, and ergonomic, the interior is a highlight of this Granvia, as it’s practically road trip-ready from day one! Our favorite feature is the OEM Cool & Hot Box center console which keeps your libations at the proper temps. The sculpted dash is in good shape and lacks any major imperfections such as cracking or distortion. It even houses dual SRS airbags, which were a rare find in ’95. Dual-zone climate control is equipped and includes rear A/C and heat to keep your passengers comfortable as well. The OEM audio was ditched for a Kenwood unit. It sounds decent and features AUX compatibility to pump in personal tunes. Faux wood accents dot the front trim and a sizable center storage bin houses a factory hot and cool box to store your provisions. Power windows, locks, and mirrors work like a charm, and a dual moonroof suite can easily flip and slide open to let in some natural ventilation. Access to the rear is made seamless thanks to a large sliding door with a soft close feature. The driver seat is powered but only the back adjusts at this point, as it no longer slides back to front. Behind the driver and passenger is an expansive cargo area, with a flat loading floor to make movement throughout the cabin seamless. The middle row swivels and all three rows even fold flat if you need to catch a quick nap on the side of the road. The carpets and door cards are in good shape as is the headliner. The gray cloth upholstery on the seats is still soft to the touch and lacks any typical defects usually found on vehicles of this vintage as well. Rear privacy window inserts keep prying eyes off cargo in the back and save for some wear to the faux woodgrain trim and a few carpet stains, it’s amazing how well this cabin was cared for in a prior life. Aside from the power folding mirror function going up the ghost it’s hard to critique this cabin.
Mechanical Overview
This semi-bonneted van houses a familiar engine under the hood, and the 3RZ-FE is shared with Tacoma and 4Runner models stateside. Parts are abundant, and this Granvia boasts a responsive rear-wheel drive layout and is fresh off an extensive service by our trained technicians. The four banger cranks over with haste, and is fresh off an oil and filter service. We also addressed some pesky oil leaks, with a new oil pump seal, valve cover gasket, distributor o-ring, and half moon seals. We installed new serpentine belts to reliably drive your accessories, and a new harmonic balancer to keep everything running as expected. A new engine air filter, fuel filter, and four new spark plugs provide a bit of a tune-up and with the maintenance performed this Granvia runs right as rain. Power is fed into a stout automatic gearbox, which benefits from a fresh fluid exchange, and with the maintenance performed this van is ready to tackle a road trip or your daily commute. The suspension benefits from new front shocks, and the ride quality is impressive. Highway speed stability is top-tier thanks to the van’s long wheelbase, and the power steering is direct and easy to maneuver if you need to venture into the city. The ABS brakes bite hard, thanks to new front pads, rear drums and shoes, and new brake hoses all the way around. The Eurolines are wrapped in good Falken rubber and fresh alignment will prolong their life.
