While the Nissan Pulsar isn't a new vehicle for us, the 5th generation sure is. The bodywork has been drastically revised from previous generations, being toned down a bit by comparison to the older GTI-r. Its three-door configuration allows for the chassis to be more stable at speed which can be an issue with hot hatches. The more rounded bodywork is a nice change of pace and is in great shape. While we also note there's going to be a few little door dings, but nothing out of the ordinary. Its Platinum Ice (KG1) paint is accentuated by the front and rear spats and matching side skirts. The factory aero gives it a bit more aggressive look without looking like something ordered out of an "Import Tuner" magazine back in 2001. The paint itself is in fantastic shape with no real blemishes to make note of. Naturally, there are a few scratches in the clear and some stone chips, but nothing you wouldn't expect to find on any 25-year-old driver's car.

The interior though, that's where things get shaken up a bit. While this hot hatch wasn't what you would call luxurious out of the gate, it most certainly can't be called that now. Completely gutted and stripped, this car was clearly modified for a purpose. It's assumed that this car was prepped for track racing or autocross based on the fact there's nothing left aside from a fixed back bucket, and a full bolt-in cage. The Safety 21 cage offers some serious protection, but also some added chassis rigidity. Despite the size of the cage its surprisingly unobtrusive. Since this one mounts through the dash opposed to around it you have plenty of space to slink down into the blue bucket. Mounted via a bride slide mount its easy to find the right spot for any driver. The Sabelt 4 point harness makes sure you stay put regardless of the road condition. While the seat is in overall great shape it does have some sun fading, which in turn has resulted in the outline of the harness being left in the cloth which you can spot in the photos. While the center console has been stripped of the climate control and radio they did leave the other power accessories. The power windows, mirrors, and locks do all still work so that at least makes the driving experience a bit more enjoyable. The door cards are in great shape and barring where they cut the dash to fit the cage, it too is in good shape. Normally with Nissans, we assume to see some peeling or cracking so it's refreshing not to have that issue here. The suede 3 spoke wheel fits the vibe of the car nicely and looks right at home in a proper tracked prepped setup like this.

Under the hood is Nissan's robust naturally aspirated 1.8L SR18DE. While it may not be the most potent motor to come out of the Nissan factory it still makes a respectable 123hp/115tq. These cars were designed to make full use of Colin Chapman's philosophy of "simplify, then add lightness." You don't need to make 700hp to have a fast car, especially on the track. Its FWD setup is designed to reduce the amount of drivetrain loss to make the most of its power. The 5 speed is very direct and easy to row through. The clutch is surprisingly light so you won't have any issues acclimating to the whole RHD shifting experience. While these handle well from the factory, everything could always stand a little upgrading. Tein coilovers get the ride height down a bit and also reduce body roll. A set of lightweight 16" Enkei Racing S wheels reduce rolling mass and look pretty slick on the N15. It goes without saying this car is designed for a very specific person; one after a turn-key race car that still has the option for street use. The Pulsar chassis is a unique choice, however is immensely capable, and with a mere 61K verified miles it has plenty left to give. As with all of our vehicles this one has been gone through mechanically as well. New tires on all four corners make sure you've got plenty of grip on tap. A fresh air filter, new plugs, and a fuel system clean up get us back on track. This car is not for the faint of heart, it really is designed to be a track monster which only makes it that much cooler. Aside from being one of, if not the first N15 Pulsars in the country it just happens to be an autocross course away from greatness.
