Subaru's WRX Impreza is a sporty, compact AWD rocket that can trace its roots back to the World Rally Championship. Equipped with a turbocharger and 3 pedals, this all-around capable sedan is a riot! This first-generation 1994 model is a prime example and is offered up with just 119k verified/documented miles. Finished in Subaru's beautiful Light Silver Metallic (406), the body is in great shape overall, with only some light scuffs and blemishes present from day-to-day use. A set of late-model Impreza Sport alloys were added prior to landing here stateside, and the rest of the exterior remains in its original form. Privacy tint and an OEM low-rise rear spoiler complement the GC8's smooth body lines. Notable repairs in Japan include a replacement of the driver's side front fender, but judging by the condition of this Impreza it is no worse for the wear. If you're looking for a fun daily commuter or a weekend mountain carver, this Impreza is a Japanese Classic that does it all!

The cabin is spacious, and while utilitarian in design, still offers up a number of power features and amenities that make the daily driving experience a bit easier. The seats are trimmed in a grey upholstery with red tiger-style inserts. The front and rear seats lack any rips or stains and have been kept in great shape by the previous owner. The door cards are in equally good nick and have fortunately resisted the age-related peeling we typically see on Subies of this vintage. The driver benefits from a tilt-adjustable steering column, and a smaller OMP rally-style steering wheel ensures you'll have plenty of legroom up front. For a car with race-bred roots, there are enough power options to make the drive comfortable. Aside from the power folding mirror option not retracting as it should, the power windows, locks, and mirror adjustments are all in good operation. The lower dash trim is in good nick and houses a period-correct Nakamichi sound system, which is functional, but only provides audio through the rear speakers. The automatic climate control blows cold A/C on demand and is perfect for the warm summer days to come. Although the heater core is inoperable, we took that into consideration when we priced the vehicle for the next owner to benefit from. The headliner is tidy and taut, and the carpets have stood the test of time lacking any stains and worn areas. All in all, it's really hard to complain about the interior, and it's clear this sedan was cared for in a prior life.

Under the bonnet, the EJ20G is similar in structure to the turbocharged boxers offered in the later WRX's and STi's of today. This one is fresh off a recent service, ripe and ready for many successful miles stateside. The engine cranks over swiftly, care of a new 12v battery, and emits a reserved burble at idle through an aftermarket Fujitsubo exhaust system. We performed a fresh oil and filter service to get this EJ up to date on maintenance, and the operation is smooth and confident! Acceleration is potent and a new fuel pump installed in-house ensures you won't skip a beat. Mated up to the EJ20 is a close-ratio 5-speed box, shifts are smooth with no grinds or pop-outs to note, and the clutch is easy on the calves as well. The stock suspension is forgiving and absorbs impacts over bumps and potholes with the assistance of newer rear struts and rear top hats, keeping the passengers planted in their seats. A front strut tower bar was added to stiffen the suspension and reduce body roll through turns. The steering is light and easy for maneuvering in tight city streets. The well-known symmetrical all-wheel-drive system is what Subaru is known for, and performs flawlessly. If you're an aspiring rally driver or a Subaru enthusiast looking for a rig that's stood the test of time, this GC8 is it!
