Exterior Overview
Retro 4×4’s are all the rage. They’re stylish, majestic, and are a heck of a lot better off-tarmac than most modern soft-roaders. Our 70 series Land Cruiser is a true classic, but it’s packed with modern amenities and a diesel drivetrain that’s a cakewalk to own and maintain. Finished in Grasmere Green (2207) this KZJ78 looks the part and is set off by a custom graphics package, LED tail lamps, and a slick set of refinished factory 15″ alloys shod in brand new all-terrain rubber. Save for some minor paint defects, this 25 year old rig shows well overall and is ready to turn heads in the backcountry or cruising the boulevard. Toyota enthusiasts will appreciate the 137k miles on the clock too, which are verified, documented, and indicate this rig has hardly been broken in compared to most stateside Cruisers. Cool, capable, and collectable, these rigs often appreciate once landing domestically, making this Japanese Classic a safe investment!

Interior Overview
The cabin is in great shape for being derived from a 40 year old design. It’s upholstered in quality materials, flush with the power equipment needed to make daily driving a walk in the park, and boasts a desirable and comfortable third row for hauling around a full squad. The Prado touts ample headroom indoors, allowing passengers of all shapes and sizes to fit comfortably, and the driver can dial in the ideal piloting position with a tilt adjustable steering column and power lumbar adjustment, which can be a godsend on longer road trips. The dash tucks nicely in the front of the cabin and is free of major cracks and distortion that commonly plague this model. Power locks, windows, and side mirrors work like a charm, and for natural ventilation the rear glass can butterfly out to supplement the cabin with a fresh breeze. If you prefer to utilize the factory climate control, cold A/C and hot heat work like a charm, and an OEM optional air purifier mounts atop the headliner to freshen things up inside. The cloth upholstery is durable and has resisted any rips, stains, or bolster wear. The headliner and carpet are in fine shape, although we wanted to note a bit of wear in the rear cargo area. If we were to scrutinize the cabin at all, the steering wheel has worn a bit over the years, and some yellowing is present on the plastics. Other than that, this retro interior really hits the mark!

Mechanical Overview
It’s safe to say this Cruiser wouldn’t have earned its flowers without the reliable and tenacious 1KZ-TE turbodiesel under the bonnet. These peppy four bangers are known for their top-tier fuel economy, ease of service, and prodigious low-end grunt. We’ve gone a step further and given this 3.0 a full service, and our trained technicians have greenlighted it for the road ahead. It starts with a new 12v battery, which we also installed to properly test the alternator. From there, we changed out the serpentine belts with new ones to drive your accessories, and a new valve cover gasket and half moon seal prevent against any unwanted oil leaks from the fresh fluid service. A new intake air filter and fuel filter prevent contaminants from reaching the combustion chamber, and with the maintenance performed this 3.0TD jets right up to interstate speeds, where it cruises comfortably thanks to a new steering stabilizer. We performed one of the most involved drivetrain services, a fresh rebuild of the front hubs, where new bearings and seals were installed to keep the selective 4WD system operating reliably. 4 Low also comes in handy if you trudge off the beaten path. New shocks bolster the lifted suspension all the way around, and we pressed in new trailing arm bushings in the rear and performed a fresh alignment while it was up on our lift. This 70 glides over road imperfections large and small, and stops on a dime thanks to new pads and rotors. The last line of defense between you and the pavement, the new Falken rubber not only looks tough but is ideal for hitting the beach, trails, or jetting about on the highway. This special rig needs nothing more, and is turn-key ready to rock.
